Good news if you fly! The DOT is making sure that your right to be possibly chewed up by a pit bull shall not be infringed upon. Now that's a decision that pit bull owners can sink their teeth into and their dogs still get the chance to sink their teeth into nearby airline passengers.

Delta announced last year that it was banning “pit bull type dogs” as service or support animals, after two employees were bitten by a passenger’s emotional support dog. But on Thursday, the DOT said in a guidance document on how it plans to enforce regulations of service animals in aircraft cabins that it “views a limitation based exclusively on breed of the service animal to not be allowed under its service animal regulation.”

You can't bring a knife or a gun on the plane but you can bring a pit bull? Personally, as far as emotional support animals go I think someone should follow their owners around with a spoon and periodically thump them on the head while they're in a business with their pet (figuratively, of course!). I have a good friend who is in a wheelchair because she was broadsided on her Harley and she had her service dog break training when it was attacked in a store by some asshole's emotional pet blanket. As far as a pit bull being a service dog, in a similar vein I guess I could also use a grenade as a hammer.

I just gotta keep an eye on that grenade pin!

Suggesting that all pit bulls are all evil and out of control is akin to suggesting certain human races are evil and out of control.

I used to live with a staffordshire terrier that was one of the sweetest dogs I've ever known. I also watched the akita that I lived with at that same time kill a cat without hesitation.
 
The problem I have with so called service dogs is there really is no regulation and it is very hard to prove that a dog is not a service dog!
In fact one of the tell tale signs of whether a dog is a service dog is how that dog behaves.
As in is it jumping around uncontrollably?
Is it barking or bearing it`s teeth at total strangers for no reason?
This is a really slippery slope and Delta is eventually going to lose a lot of money if somebodys so called service dog bites or attacks somebody?
But if you read the whole article or another article on this subject ypou will find that the airlines can ask you to show up with the service dog ahead of time and they can make a decision using papers and letters from your psychiatrists...etc.....to see if this si really a service dog..

On my street there are seven pit bulls, five of them have come in our garage to attack our cats. One idiot tried to excuse his dog attacking our cat by saying "He plays with my Mom's cat". I told him "That wasn't playing". It fucking ridiculous that these idiots think "NO!" is a leash. I've kicked three of the damned things, one in the head, as it was trying to get at our cats under our car in the garage. None of the owners walk their dogs so they are just boiling over with energy every time they let them loose. Not one is ever leashed, ever.

You think they are sweet dogs? You can have them.

All breeds have a level of aggression.
Odds are that your pit bull have more aggression than other dogs

Logic:
All dogs can snap. A puddle will leave a mark, a pit bull with the jaw strength of a small gator (made that up) will do some more damage.

Consider facts, consider logic ... what do you come up with in regards to pitts?

Its a little like how house cats are cute only because they dont have the size to kill you.
 
I have no probem with trained service dogs such as for wheelchair bound people, like my friend. That dog, and her replacement dog (that cost thousands more to train to replace the first dog that also cost thousands to train) are trained to assist her in all kinds of ways. They ignore other people when they are at work and she's really good with her dog. The untrained emotional support dog that the asshole brought into the store she was at attacked her dog until it broke it's training and responded to the yapping little shit. The owner couldn't get the dog to restrain it because she was too fat to get out of her electric cart quick enough.

People with real service dogs dread running into the selfish assholes who drag their pets everywhere and call them "emotional support animals".
 
Fortunately compliance with the DOT position is voluntary, so perhaps Delta will stand it's ground on this. Emotional support dogs do not require specialized training and, as far as I'm concerned, do not belong uncaged in the passenger section of the planes. Service dogs are a different thing and, while they would make me extremely uncomfortable in an airplane cabin, their training is such that I think I could live with it. I have not yet flown where there was a service dog on the plane.
 
I’m not worried. I’m sure my emotional support animal will take care of those emotional support pit bulls with no problem if they act up.

OP, so dogs are ok to stereotype based on what kind of breed it is, but doing something similar with humans would be Nazi racist ultimate evil, right? Some of you show an incredible amount of hypocrisy. I have a pit/lab mix, you couldn't imagine a better family dog.

You emotional thinking hypocrites are not guided consistently by logic, you go by your feels as you jump from one subject to the next. Every person is an individual that shouldn't be prejudged regardless of what statistics might suggest about a given demographic as a whole, right? I'm on board with that, content of the character over color of the skin. Dogs are no different, I've known enough of them well enough to see they are plainly individuals with very distinct personalities. And even a given dog with certain inborn traits can be trained to ignore those behavioral traits. Dogs and people that would have been good by the normal standard otherwise can be exposed to things that make them do the opposite of what we'd consider "good." Liberals today are racists that simply see everyone in different containers, you don't know how to do anything but that. I as a Trump supporter see us as equal individually.

Anyone can go to a doctor and claim they need an "emotional" support animal these days. Service dog is a thing of the past.

That is truew thus the need for actual vewrifiable papers from a mental health expert and verifiable papers showing that the dog has been trained as as a emotional support animal and thus the need to ask a person ahead of time to show up with their +emotional+ support animal spo they can observe for themselves that this animal is truly an emotional support animal@ ! The airlines can still deny the animal onbaords the flight.....there are just way more things that have to been done!

Actually not any doctor can say you need an emotional support animal! I believe the aeticle that i read stated it must come from a mental health expert that you are seeing on a regular basis!!
