Got a box that I need to be able to access my internal network in DOS (or anything else besides windows). Trying to install W2k on it, but the cdrom drive just blew out on me. I need to be able to copy the i386 folder off my main computer to this box, so that I can install. Is there a particular way to install networking protocols to this machine in DOS, so I can copy the folder?

Here are the links you need. Hopefully you'll be able to figure out how to do it. :) BTW, I've found that you can't use DriveSpace3 in Win98SE to make the compressed floppy. I had to use DriveSpace on Win95A. The DriveSpace3 in Win98SE will let you compress the floppy, but it won't let you see the uncompressed section so you can add the file to make it bootable.

You probably don't need the TCP/IP page, but I stuck it in there anyway. I use the NetBEUI protocol on my boot floppies, and it works ok. You need to map the drive on the other computer before you can copy files from it, but there're directions somewhere on those web pages on how to do the mapping. Good luck. :)

I just thought of this...why can't you just take the CD-ROM out of your main computer and install using that?

You can download the files for MS-DOS networking from microsoft (do a search) there are two files. If you have a Windows NT 4.0 Server CD they are also on that. You can connect to any windows share on your network from MS-DOS.

Good luck.

The links to the MS-DOS networking clients are somewhere in one of the four links I posted above, if you don't feel like searching Microsoft's site. :)
