didn't think it fit into the other forums but here it is ..

i was checking out stuff on my router and lately it's been dropping packets two attacks show up ..

Smurf Attack and Ping of Death .. am i missing something or are these bad?

i've patched all computers accessing the internet and ran spyware and antivirus and nothing shows up. also changed my ip.

help?

I think you were spared any adverse effects by you firewall. Unless you are being repeatedly attacked I doubt that this affected your usage in any way.

it hasn't effected at all and its stopping at my router.

i want to know how to stop it. thanks for the reply!

There really is nothing you can do to stop it. Most likely they are not targeting you specifically, but are scanning a large range of IPs that you happen to fall in to. All you can do is protect yourself, and it sounds like you have. If it starts to look like you are being targeted consistently or the volume gets out of control then log it and report it to your ISP.

Bootprint, you would be VERY suprised how many DoS attacks are still ICMP based....we get them all the time here. Sid, you should be able to report it to your ISP and have them block ICMP to that specific range of IP's at their edge routers, or even on your gateway.

thanks. imma start saving my logs from my router and keep them and call up SBC / Yahoo when i feel it's getting out of hand.

as funny as it sounds .. i was getting SMURF ATTACKS also .. but those stopped.
