take a screenshot of their desktop.
move all of their desktop items to somewhere on the HD.
set the screenshot as the background/wallpaper
make the taskbar as small as possible,
use the monitor to move the screen down enough to hide the small taskbar.
I had both my IT teacher and Local Administrator Fooled for 2hours with this.
They got to the point where they were going to reinstall windows, until i told them what "someone" must have done!!!

Did something like this at a lan party, added a load of Porn links/pictures/folders on his desktop, took screenshot, set as background, removed the actual ones. Watched for 15 mins as he tried to click/select them, delete them, until he finally figured it out (after a little hint from all the laughing!)

Be careful if you do the penny trick I had a friend do it to a girl. She just wanted to scare him so complained to the CA and he was written up and had to go to J board and all only way he got off was by her writing a letter saying it was a joke. Security considered it a fire hazard. One we did considering upstate NY is always fing cold is filling a dorm garbage can with snow and dumping it on the victim in the shower or watching tv/ game playing in the lounge. A funny one we did was switch the drawers of two different dressers of a guy and girl in seperate rooms and see how long it takes them to figure it out...for us 8:30 the next morning when the dude was running up and down the hall asking who the hell has his jeans and who's undies are these!
A variation to the 500 dixie cup prank. Find a nice large flat surface in the room (floor, desk, bed, whatever). Get paper cups (dixie or larger) and set them out so they are touching each other. Staple each cup to every one adjacent to it. Fill with water. Watch face of roommate as they try to figure out how to clean it up large mass of stapled cups filled w/water. Either they dump the water out creating a huge mess or they have to sit there & remove each cup individually from the ones next to it.

I suppose you could always try the tested-and-true cheapie. Poke a hole in the bottom of a soda can, inject TurboSuperExtraLax, and then seal off the hole with superglue.
If you want, you could even attach a post-it to it, with "dont drink this is mine".

if you can take off the shower head in the bathroom put a couple of hard lifesavers in there, when someone takes a hot shower theyll get a nice sugar coating. doing it on girls has added benefits

See the first thing I'd do in a situation like that is hit the "Windows" key on the keyboard to see if Windows is responding (aside from my mouse) ... so the Start Menu would popup off-screen somewhat... and well... this joke just wouldn't work so well in that case. Call me a party pooper.
Save up all your beer cans and construct a "canned door" out of them by using duct tape. Make it so it fits in the frame of the door exactly and proceed to tape it down by running tons of duct tape from one side of the door to the next. Make sure to leave a door knob spot and a peep hole so the victim can see out if needed.
Then proceed to place in the doorway of the cranky RA and wait til he comes out. We did this to the RA one night and we actually had him in tears casue he could not get out. The door was so durable that we used it the following morning on a kids door who had an exam at 8:45am. I have never seen someone so pissed in my life.
The door was so well built that it lasted the remainder of the year.
Another thing we had planned to do was save all the pizza boxes and stack them across the hall and 3-4 rows deep. Then when security comes on their patrol they hit a road block.
Another good one we did was cut out the bottom of a bean bag chair and carefully turn it over using something like a flat piece of cardboard to keep all the filling in. Then set a sign on it saying "don't touch" in the hallway in front of kid's room who was jerk. He came out and kicked the bag out of the way and the small white peanutty things flew everywhere, mostly because of our strategically placed fans blowing down the hall. Now that i think of it a little bit of talc powder would have made it even better.
