don't answer the door :)

Tell that to my wife! Not only will she generally answer the door, she will also chit chat with telemarketers on the extremely rare times we get a call. Me? I won't answer the door and if I pick up a phone and it is a telemarketer, I hang up.

What about going door to door trying to sell signs:

I hate salesmen with a passion...but that's because I am one. Do yourself and them a favor. As soon as you open the door and they start their speil, interrupt them and say no thanks and close the door.

Remember that they are just trying to make a (semi) honest living. No need to be a dick but no need to give them any more of your time than necessary.

That's pretty much how I deal with door-to-door people, whether it's the guy selling frozen beef, or the couple selling God...as soon as they've delivered enough of their spiel for me to know what they're pushing, I hold my hand out and say, "NO thanks. Have a good day", and close the door.

some rock, a few months ago one randomly knocked on my door and was selling candy. I was in the mood for some chocolate with peanut butter in it. He happened to have some. I didn't have any cash, so I gave him a line he probably has hear a thousand times "I'd love to buy one but I don't have any cash" He asked if I had a credit card and pulled out an iPhone with a Square Up, I already knew what it was because I have Square Up too, so I told him to save the story about Square Up and yanked out my debit card.

I scored some delicious chocolate and didn't even have to drive anywhere.

I feel your pain Butch. Some lady came to our house several weeks ago trying to sell us on a windows cleaning service. Well, while my wife had the door propped, our little schnauzer bolted out the front door and started running around the front yard. We were scared to death that she was going to run out in the road and get killed but fortunately, I chased her down. I haven't run that hard in 20+ years. :D

Anyway, I finally had to literally yell at the lady to leave. We told her like 3 times to please leave as we were trying to get the dog, and it even ran up to her and I said "Grab her!" and the jackass just stood there and let the dog run off. So when I finally grabbed the dog, the lady came up to me to sell me the service and I screamed "NO! GET OUT!!!!" My wife won't be rude to salespeople, but I sure as hell am unless it is a kid selling stuff for school.

Yea, I don't mind Girl scout cookies but that's about it. I'm thinking I'll just let the dog out and let her bite the next one although it might get me in trouble but technically they ARE trespassing IMO..

It's a good way of getting the city to placing your dog down. :(

Unless you warn people off your property with signs or locked gates, you are considered to have given an "implied invitation" to members of the public to approach your door on common errands - for example, to speak with you, try to sell you something, or ask directions.

Jesus the OP is a backwards man, we get it, you don't like them, but you don't need to be all high and mighty about it.

You need to get a better behaved dog.

one of my ex's relatives would talk to the telemarketers and carry on a conversation with them for 20 minutes or more and never buy anything. just waste their time.

There is nothing wrong with how my dog behaves. That was the first and only time she has ever done that. And, of course, my wife handled the situation COMPLETELY wrong, as usual.

You need to get a better-behaved wife?

Anyway, door-to-door salesmen are basically human pop-up ads. Nothing wrong with keeping a good pop-up blocker around the house :)

If your dog bolts out the door without being told to or won't come when called: you're doing it wrong.

It's funny when people try to solicit my house. I always leave the front door open with just the glass storm door in place. They walk up and just as they are about to ring the bell, my male German Shepherd throws himself at the door growling and barking. I've yet to see someone actually stick around and ring the bell.

This one guy leaving chinese food menus didn't even make it halfway to the door before he turned around and left.
