I'm looking for one of those door frame chinup bars. I'd like to buy it online if that's cheaper, but I'm not sure what's out there that's quality and reasonably prices.

What brands/price range should I be looking at?

I've been using the "Iron Gym" for over a year, picked it up at Bed Bath and Beyond. Solid piece of equipment, but if the door frame is >32" you'll need to order the extended bar. There's an order form in the box, extra $10 + shipping IIRC. I used it and got my extended bar within 2 weeks. Thing's still going strong. Haven't tried any of the knock-offs/alternatives.

So with extended bar, ~$40 shipped from amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Gym-Tota...=sporting-goods&qid=1287975711&sr=8-2-catcorr $27 without. Think the base package was $30 at BB&B.

The sense that I got when I was looking around was that, unless you have special requirements, they're pretty well commoditized so just go with whatever reviews well on amazon.

Personally, I had to get one that screws in because there's no room around my door frame for one of the removable ones. I just picked one from amazon and it turned out pretty well. The nice thing about the screw-in is that it is solid enough to support hanging rings from.

This is what I got: http://www.amazon.com/GoFit-GF-CUB-Chin-Up-Bar/dp/B0007W2FLI/ref=pd_sbs_sg_7

The bar doesn't pop out of the holders very easily, but I don't have much need to remove it often. The foam handles started to tear up pretty quickly, but somehow manage to still be hanging on after about a year. Other than that, it's been completely solid.

I'm more than likely going to screw it in because of a certain fear of falling on my ass.

But I can't order from Amazon as they don't ship to Canuckistan.

Well they shipped my bar to southern Ontario so... It varies from product to product.

It's one of the more expensive ones, but I have an "Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar - Extreme Edition" and I love it. You can use it for more than just pull ups & chin ups, too. I also use it for sit ups (holding my feet), push ups, and dips. Very easy to attach to door and remove, no permanent install required.
