Hi.
Who here has seen the Doom3 Alpha running?
Personally i dont think that the textures are that good and the game seems to be very relient on Bump Mapping to get the visuals. It also seems to be CPU limited. I ran it for the first time, and noticed that it occasionally went jerky. Then i realised that i had 2xFSAA & 8x AF switched on. So i switched it off, but get the same frame rates.
The resolution seems stuck at 800x600 as well. Cos i set the config file at 1280x0124 to see what sort of frame rates it would get, but it stayed at 800x600 according to my monitor osd.

Although its just a alpha version, and the game should not be judged by what the alphas like, i find it to be quite a stable game.

What are your opinions people?

I installed it when if first came out, but the game kept crashing my sytem. I saw it at a friend's house, and it looks pretty sweet. When is it scheduled to come out?

I've seen it running at 1600x1200, it's not locked at 800x600.

I'm not worried about the look of the game, although it's obvious they're trying to make the environment and sounds play a big role, as long as the gameplay and story are good. Half-Life was a great FPS even though the graphics were so-so, I just hope iD can do the same.

I think, june/july time. Not sure though. Check the official website or something for details. It`ll probably say there.

"When it's done"

seems to be the answer to "When is it coming out?"

How do you change the resolution then?
Ive changed the setting in thconfig file that relates to resolution, and it still stays a 800x600.
Heres what my config file says. (doom3config.cfg)

Default config:
seta r_customHeight "486"
seta r_customWidth "720"

My config:
seta r_customHeight "1024"
seta r_customWidth "1280"

But they both go to 800x600 for some reason.

Ive just been fiddling around with doom3, and have found a interesting hidden setting.
Press F12 when in game, and it`ll give you 4 weapons from Quake3. The chaingun, the rocket launcher, the plasma cannon, and the BFG. The weapons use the same gun/projectile textures as Quake3, but they are fun to use.

It's an index in a list of resolutions, 4 is 800x600, I think 5 is 1024x768 and so on.

It was built on the Q2 engine, which I never really liked.

The Q2 enigine could only do 4 colors: blue, green, orange, and brown.
The half-life engine was a highly modified engine which could do most colors.

I know it was very heavily modified, but that doesn't mean I had to be impressed by it.

Yay! I'm all excited I don't get to correct Nothinman very often!

It's actually based on the Q1 engine but only retains about 30% of the original source code. Half Life was out shortly after Q2 and at about the same time as some other Q2 engine based games came out (like Sin) so many assumed HL was Q2 based.

Both engines are capable of 16bit color although ID software generally choses 65,000 shades of brown (q1) Green (q2) or Red (q3) to do their games. As long as the gibs fly it's all good tho.

When i played it i thouht it was really cool looking and i'm looking forward to it coming out!

It's been quite a while since I've seen HL =)

I was teetering between saying Q1 and Q2, but they revamped it enough that it didn't look at all like Q1 so I assumed it was Q2.

That's interesting. I always thought that it was the Q2 engine. That's what I read in reviews everywhere.
