Anyone losing sound while going from 'in-game' to menu or console...?
The sound cuts out on me every once in a while. It just gets grainy, then poof--dead silence. I found a workaround to avoid restarting--I just hit ESC to the menu, go to sound, deselect surround sound, then reselect it and the audio comes back. Using an NForce 2 board (Soundstorm).
Ouch, what a PITA =\ I think you can bind s_restart or s_reset to a key and when you hit the key it will perform the equivalent of fiddling with the menu 🙂
Add this line to your config file:

bind [whatever] "s_restart"

I have an nForce 2 board and whenever it starts crackling or just goes silent (WTF?!?), I hit my M key and within a second the sound is back as if I'd kicked out to the menu and went thru the hassle.

If you want to change video options without exiting the game, you can type "vid_restart" (not sure if that's correct, but whatever the command is) and it'll reload the game right where you're at w/o needing to exit.

Yep I got Z560 4.1 here too. If I change my speaker config to 5.1 in either creative speaker settings or control panel speaker advanced....doom3 allows me to select surround and seems to work fine. Odd that it doesnt allow surround if you have quadraphonic speaker setting.

The game doesn't seem to suppot 4.1 speaker systems for 3d audio, only 5.1 surround. Pretty dissapointing not to get the full effect with my Logitech Z560's.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've got Klipsch PM 4.1s. You would think w/a game of this caliber it would support regular analog 4.1 speakers.
