Hello,

I pre-ordered the expansion pack at BB for $10 and it came with a T-shirt. Today is the release so I took the NorCal Fry's ad to BB and PM'd the 23.99 and BB has a free "Making of Doom3" and "weapons guide" in a case that appears to contain a disc but only has a cheezy guide inside.

Anyway:

Doom3 T-shirt
Cheezy guide
Resurrection of evil expansion pack

23.99+ tax ($10 was prepaid) so $13.99 +tax today

I think it is a great deal

I picked it up at fry's this morning. It's only a single CD. :| Should have been $19.99.

Circuit City has the $25 price too, so use CC if you don't have a Fry's to pm to BB.

I'm going to have to finish D3 before buying the expansion, but thanks for letting me know it's out there OP... I'll probably wait until it's like $5 though (I'm never pre-ordering a game agian... :) )

i was stuck at the boss at the end of hell level, and stopped playing since. I guess I will try to finish it first before getting the expansion.

killing the boss in hell is not that hard. If you do it right, you will hardly be touched... I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so email if you need specific help.

I finished it but hated it the entire time.

Here is Id's plan for a 'great' game.

1) Everytime the player steps through a doorway spawn a guy behind him.

2) Make the specs to even load the game so ridiculous that half of the gaming community will be forced to upgrade.

3) Sell a boring, slow, and SHORT game so that we can get the players on an expansion within 4 months of the original's release.

4) Profit.

My god it took me so freaking long to figure out how to beat that boss, but once you figure it out its really not that hard.

I too was pretty unimpressed in terms of gameplay. The graphics are great, and I wouldn't say I got bored, but the only innovation (if you can call it that) was the PDA thing (gotta' catch 'em all!) and the console interaction.

Awesome graphics and a classicly 'cool' story can only take a game so far.

You dont like the genre, not ids problem.

2) Make the specs to even load the game so ridiculous that half of the gaming community will be forced to upgrade.

Youd rather play starcraft, not ids problem.

3) Sell a boring, slow, and SHORT game so that we can get the players on an expansion within 4 months of the original's release.

its taken me quite a while to complete it, i think i got my moneys worth.

4) Profit.

Yup.

As for the game, I think it did a great deal for the gaming community in forcing people to toss out the old crap they had and buy some good hardware. These people will be glad they did when they play FarCry and BF2 (when released)and many other new games at full resolution. As for the game, I like it because I enjoys the differences in the game, the lighting and the effects and the flesh that drops from the ceiling with a nasty splat. My kids love watching me play and it scares the hell out of them which helps with my enjoyment. They are called Games for a reason.

What's up with the D3 bashing? Some of us enjoyed it a lot. Let us have our fun with the expansion.

I thought it was great. Slow paced unlike the originals but it would have been a bit dull if it was just like Doom 1/2. The expansion is a completely different game, its fast paced like Painkiller

I think we can agree the game is not short compared to other modern FPSes. Actually it's mentioned in most professional reviews the game is quite long. In fact it may be a little too long that a lot of people get bored and quit before finishing it (newsflash: any game becomes boring after a while - it's just a question of how long it takes). Of course some people get bored right away (within the first couple of levels) which means it's not their cup of tea, but I think the game draws you in after you get used to the mindless action and it's hard to get away after that. But when you do get away (like I did when I couldn't finish hell level) you can't understand what in the hell was so compelling about this seemingly simple and repetitive game. I think it's the quality of execution of the game engine (graphics & sounds) which immerses your senses and makes you want to continue playing.

Everyone knows that the TRUE heir to the Doomguy's throne was/is Serious Sam (and for only $15 shipped from Amazon for both SS 1 and 2, it's a steal!) :)

I'm afraid the days of serious sam are over, as the the game looks like an absolute piece of trash compared to modern games, and I doubt anyone should bother with it. There are many trashy games which you can have for as low as $1.99 but usually they're not even worth that (just a waste of time to install them, be disgusted, and uninstall after 5 minutes).
