doom3 not a flop?

just played the Last Man Standing (LMS) mod and its pretty cool! since my system isn't all that great, i get some pretty mad framelag.. but i enjoyed myself quite a bit!

I don't compare D3 with HL2. I enjoyed each game on its own merits.

Your dissapointment doesn't change the fact that D3 was still a successfull single player FPS game with quality reviews and an engine that upped the bar once again.

Was it a sales flop? I actually really enjoyed it, although I'd agree it was repetitive and not anything groundbreaking.

Doom 3 was good, definitely better than HL2. Far Cry stole the 2004 show though.

Not as much as HL2 was, at least Doom3 included all the features it said it was gonna have unlike HL2 which pretty much changed it's entire identity between the hype and the actual release.

i played the FC demo and wasnt overly impressed (everyone kept saying the AI was great).
maybe the demo island level wasnt big enough or something, cause i sniped everyone with ease

FarCry brought different AI into the FPS game, it's not great, but it acts different. It's harder than HL2's.

Looking back, I agree that FarCry was the game of 2004, if maybe I played on an easier setting, the game would have been better for me.

D3 has LMS? Never played it, but i kinda like LMS in MP2.

Doom 3 started off really well with a creepy tone and zombies genuinely surprising you. but then turned into total repetetiv crap. or, at least i think it did, but i couldn't really tell because it was TOO DARK. it certainly didn't have the earth shattering graphics and gameplay they said it would and did not deserve reviews as high as it got.

I guess i'll try some of the mods and see if they can ressurect the game from my "Meh" status.

i was just playing some LMS and i noticed this.. when doom runs in a bright, fairly encolsed area, it doesn't rape your system!

I think the only reason why Doom 3 "sucked" was the gamers themselves overhyped everything and the game itself can only live up to so much. I think attitudes would be much different if there was less hype and people were actually given a chance to enjoy the game without having all those hyped up ideas in their heads. I personally thought it was a pretty good FPS with some great atmosphere even though the closet monsters got old but it still startled me every now and then and there was always that great atmosphere floating around.

I liked D3 and will have to try this mod! I enjoyed HL2 as well but have to agree with the post saying FC was the game of 2004!

My Doom III play time=20-30mins(just glad I didn't buy it)
My HL2 play time=Till the end(15-18 hours?)

Although I don't think Far Cry was the game of 2004 but it was the next best thing in graphics at the time and stole the thunder from HL2 and Doom 3 as far as graphics. After playing Far Cry, Doom III and HL2 just didn't wow me as much because something on the same level had already been done.

Although off topic Dreamcast did the same to PS2,Xbox and gamecube.
