sad thing is the second one seems to actually look like a decent horror movie (by which i mean it might scare a few people and it seems to have a plot slightly better than a porno)

I agree, but for some reason Naked Lunch is critically acclaimed and makes top 100 movie lists all the time... when in reality it just creeped me out

That was one of the only films I have ever turned off midway, Their just seemed little point to it. But some critics as you say love the film.

Carpenter really lost it on that one. I woke up really late one night having left the tv on and that movie was playing on Cinemax or something. I had no idea what it was, I thought the whole "look" was very well done, but then watching it, it became apparent how totally lame the story was. At least "Escape from New York" had a good plot twist, and "The Thing" was a decent remake of a classic, but "Ghosts" just sucked. Its typical a Hollywood these days to make movies that look like they costed $100 million (which they all seem to do) with no story whatsoever.

No, I was not aware of that. That is probably why the first movie finished without telling any kind of a story.

ok, its time to defend GOM.

that movie rocked. no bs in this movie. just the reality of run or die. drug-addict women heroine. no windbag baddies. the good guys are not good guys. the gore. and utterly hilarious as it was meant to be.
now, this is as anti-hollywood as I can imagine.
and it was seriously low budget. but I admit, it qualifies as a B-movie and some sort of affinity for this type of movie is required. but it did not fail in its formula.

Im pretty sure The Matrix was ripped off by an earlier sci-fi flick as well. Doom 3 is a game and thank heavens too. Ghost of Mars should of been a game as well because it had no script.

dark city was a pseudo matrix film - and like GOM quite bad.
