Why the heck isn't this sticky?? It's such a great thread, I appreciate your work Keysplayr2k3 :thumbsup:

I tried PM'ing the mods about sticky'ing it. No response yet. Maybe they just didn't get to my PM yet.

Scratch that! We are now stickied!!! Thanks Mr. Moderator!!

Keysplayr my idea worked! Sweet! 🙂

No one chiming in with a X800 XT PE yet? I have one of these coming from ATI direct in a few weeks and I'm getting curious...

Nice work Keys!

Does 256MB of video memory make a large difference in Doom3 as opposed to 128MB? I'm trying to decide whether or not to go for a 9800 Pro 128MB or 256MB in the near future.

I just tried the old benchmark out with the newer 65.62 drivers they seem to do a pretty good job...
I used exactly the same settings as before just changed the drivers from 61.77's to theses newer beta's

Doom 3 on high settings and Nvidia CP AP preference, Performance slider on Quality.

CPU @ 2450

@350/1000
1600x1200 0xAA 36.1 seconds, 59.5FPS
1600x1200 2xAA 43.4 seconds, 49.4FPS
1600X1200 4xAA 58.5 seconds, 36.7FPS

@ 400/1100
1600x1200 0xAA 31.0 seconds, 69.3FPS
1600x1200 2xAA 37.0 seconds, 58.1FPS
1600x1200 4xAA 50.2 seconds, 42.7FPS

@ 425/1100
1600x1200 0xAA 31.0 seconds, 69.4FPS

@ 425/1130
1600x1200 0xAA 30.8 seconds, 69.6FPS
1600x1200 2xAA 36.7 seconds, 58.5FPS
1600X1200 4xAA 49.7 seconds, 43.3FPS

@430/1140
1600x1200 0xAA 30.8 seconds, 69.7FPS

Pretty much I looked at these and thought I was being held back by my CPU speed once I got to 6800 Ultra speeds with 0-2xAA anyways. With my Current mobo I am maxed out though this thing is stuck... even with more voltage it doesn't help 🙁 so anyways I tried it with my CPU underclocked a little bit... with just the settings I would most likely play with.

CPU @ 2400 MHz

@400/1100
1600x1200 0xAA 32.5 seconds 66.2FPS
1600x1200 2xAA 38.6 seconds 55.6FPS

They arn't bad but it is a drop by around 3 FPS compared to 2450. I would like to try it with my CPU highier but it either errors out in Prime or I will get a freeze for a few seconds in DIII with the CPU any highier.

It will make a difference when you crank up the res and AA.

Glad it's a sticky now, great job both of you :beer:
Anyone knows about the AA settings I mentioned above?

I cant remember where it is, but someone posted a link to a registry edit to enable 16xs AF in the drivers. I'll see if i can find it.

No, I was talking about the 16xAA not AF, this is what puzzles me, in Doom III options, in advanced options tab, when you set AA, you can choose one of these options: off, 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x, so what's up with 16x?

Is it possible that since Carmack designed Doom3 around nvidia cards, that 16x AA is actually SuperSampling?

The system is in my sig. In a nutshell its a P43.0c and 1gig of Corsair PC3200 Platinum on an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, 9800pro AIW and a 36gig Raptor as the main drive. Nothing is overclocked. And I am using Cat 4.8s.

These tests run at 1280x1024 (native resolution of my 192t) with AA and AF set to off in the ATI panel and AA set to none in the Doom settings.

High = 28.9fps
Medium = 31.2fps
Low = 31.3 fps

Just for kicks I ran it at the setting I get if I go with the built in Doom hardware detection/optimal setting thing which sets it to 640x480 medium. Fps for that is 66.4

I am seriously thinking about getting a 6800 now, heh.

I get mine tomorrow (Monday morning) shipped overnight from Newegg. So Monday night I should have some benchies up of it. Good cpu too -- 2xXEON 3.6ghz @ 960fsb.

Here's the scores:

2 x XEON 3.6ghz @ 960fsb
1gb OCZ DDR4400 Gold 2.5,3,3,7
Cheetah 15k U320 drive
PowerColor X800XT Non-Overclocked

Timedemo Demo1
Vsync = OFF
Catalyst v4.9

1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=OFF / 0xAA / 0xAF 47.6 (weird score huh? check the 51 below)
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=ON / 2xAA / 0xAF 33.7
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=OFF / 2xAA / 0xAF 46
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=OFF / 0xAA / 16xAF 51.6
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=OFF / 6xAA / 16xAF 20
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=OFF / 2xAA / 16xAF 44
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=OFF / 2xAA / 4xAF 40
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=ON / 4xAA / 8xAF 23
1600x1200 / HQ / Quality / Temporal=ON / 6xAA / 16xAF 18

Not too pretty huh? Well, I'm really holding out for HL2, which is why I went ATI over Nvidia - and I'll continue to pray on a driver re-write.

EDIT:

Hmm, I think there is a bug in my game. The flashlight isn't working like its supposed to. It lights up some areas, but the vast majority of the areas it doesn't have any affect on. Meaning, I could be standing right up next to a wall and shining the flashlight directly on it but see nothing... the only thing I can think of is "unpacking" the pack files might have messed something up? But that just seems odd. Any other ideas regarding this? because at the moment doom is somewhat unplayable since I can't use the friggin flashlight.

Why did you unpack the pak files?
