Doom3 and Optical Mouse problem

When I'm playing Doom, and I hear a monster walking closer, I try to spin around and shoot, but when I jerk the mouse too fast It doesn't turn, but just looks up usually. I don't remember having this trouble with other FPSs. And suggestions.

What mouse?

Microsoft IntelliMouse optical. Its USB. The first model they came out with. I've had it for 5 years probably. I use a mouse pad with a distinct pattern on it.

I had one of those until the feet wore out, and replaced it with a logitech mx500. It's far better than that old explorer. I believe the new ms explorers should be about the same as the mx500/700 line as far as response goes, so take your pick.

Might want to try a different surface and see what happens.

hah! i have that same mouse (i love it) and also experience that same problem. the reason it happens is because since the optical technology was (at the time) relatively new, the rate at which the optical sensor refreshes is slower than mice from nowadays. therefore, it is more prone to have errors when comparing the images as you move the mouse, which is why the cursor (or your view in a fps game) goes screwy sometimes. unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do, but i'm happy enough with the mouse that i live with it.

throw it away, its a pos. get an mx510 from logitech and feel true smoothness. as said, the refresh for those old mice sucked, the resolution of the sensors was poor, it ran at 400dpi ..the mx mice 800dpi.

get a teflon mousepad from cshyde.com and a roll of their mouse feet tape. its also teflon, makes for smooth movement and u wear the tape, not your mouse feet. not all mouse feet are as hard and rough as those old ms mice.

AHH!!! AH!!!! I HAVE THAT MOUSE TOO!!!! IT RULES!

Oh sorry the the excess enthusiasm. I got that thing when it came out and was $65! That is one of the best mice ever made IMO. I just recently replaced it with a Logitech cordless MX DUO and its about the same. I like the feel of the Microsoft better but I like wireless and I got it for $40 so I cant complain.

I also had the original MS Explorer mouse. If you scan the code and send the scan and a form to MS they will sent you the newest version. They started having problems with the original so they will give you a new one now. I did this about a year ago. I think you can still do it, but I don't know where to get the form. My mouse use to just loose connection to the computer, that is why I did the trade in.

I went the same route. I still  my 1g and 3g intellimouse explorers, but the MX Duo is far too sweet to pass on.

Are you serious? Do you have a link?

i have the same mouse, and i LOVE IT!, but its nearing its end. i've already had to sauder the wirings inside since they ripped apart, but it was a great mouse. i havent tried a new generation logitech mouse yet, but i'm looking forward to one.

i had that mouse too for about 2yrs. Wore down quickly, and didn't respond as fast. So i ended up getting a MS 3.0 explorer. My next mouse might be a 510, but my MS3.0 is doing just fine.
