Decided to take a chance and go see Doom with a few of my friends. It is a shame that I can no longer get either my 2 hours of $6.50 back. The movie was absolutely horrible. For a concept that had some serious potential (I went in with high expectations)...they really fvcked it up. Granted the first 3/4 of the movie was decent at best....if they wouldve kept it like that and added a *real* ending...I might have been okay with it....but they just took it to a ridiculously low level. Cheesy tag lines, cliches left and right, it was simply horrible.

Not to mention the crappy acting, the storyline was not followed at all. In the game the marines were at UAC for security....not some silly Emergency Response Team. The monsters in the game were demons from hell....not some silly "24th Chromosome" homocidal super-humans that for some reason mutate into giant beasts. AND.....i dont remember getting a gun with a flashlight attached to it!!! :mad; :p

Overall it was just bad....plain and simple. The acting was terrible, very bad plot, and hardly followed the game. Some of the action was decent, most was laughable. I highly reccomend staying far far away from this film...and if you still want to see it...download it or find some other way to not have to pay $$ for it.

Plot in a nutshell (spoliers)
-There is an "Arc" that was found (basically a teleporter from earth to mars)
-Theres a problem at UAC....lets send out the Marines Emergency Response team (which consisted of about 8 guys)
-Marines find scientists "dead"
-We begin to see "monsters"lurking
-Random cliches (flashlight dies........brother and sister that hate eachother forced to work side by side)
-Rock finds the BFG (he gives this really weird smirk every time he says the word "fvck" in the movie....)
-Everyone of the maries die but Rock and the brother
-The Rock goes psycho thinking everyone is infected
-Massive killing of innocent people
-Rock and the brother duke it out WWF style
-Brother and sister make it out alive
-End

SPOLIER!!!
If you are wondering about that 24th Chromosome deal heres how it breaks down. UAC was testing a new 24th chromosome they found in a "human' from their dig on mars. They thought it would give humans super human strength, such as the ability to instantly heal. They tested it on a guy and he ended up going crazy and becoming a zombie (he started the mess obviously). Turns out that if you give the 24th Chromosome to "bad people" (evil souls....people that would go to hell)....they turn into zombies....but if you give it to "good people" (heaven people)....they get the superhuman abilities. Thing is.....the zombies only go after the "bad" people.....meaning zombies can only make other zombies. I guess UAC had some extra 24thC left over and the dudes sister gave it to him....cause she "knew he was a good man"....luckily for him he was, and got the ability to heal instantly.....(this is when we go into HYPER ACTIVE FIRST PERSON VIEW)......A very silly concept i feel overall....

it was bad, but "Ever" only applies if you have only seen 5 movies in your life ;)

i would have to agree with you completely, i only had to blow 4.50 but then my gf wanted to go so i ended up spending $9 on tickets...thats 9 dollars and 2 hours of my life i will never get back

spend the 4.50 or whatever the movie price is on something more fun kind a mcFlurry from mcDonalds, the excitement will last longer

You guys that bitch and moan about bad movies need to lower your expectations a little. I have never seen a movie in the theatre that was so bad that I was angry and wanted my money back. The experience of seeing a movie on the big screen is usually worth it, even if it is a bad movie.

Get over it. Not all movies can be as The Sound of Music (your favorite).

I thought it was really boring. The whole "Mars" angle was pointless since the only way you even knew they were on Mars is because a subtitle said so.

(note, i haven't read his post yet, just posting based off the title)

what were you expecting from this movie? an oscar award winning movie? this movie was great for what it was supposed to be - a mindless action film based on a mindless action video game. it served its purpose fine.

in the midst of doing so, it brought back a lot of nostalgia feelings. the FPS view in the movie was pretty cool, although I could have seen it stop a little before it did. the dialog was pretty bad as expected. the weapons were pretty damn cool in the game. the action scenes were decent. the rock actually did a great job IMO.

here's an idea. next time you see a movie like doom, go into it, knowing that it will not be a stellar performing movie, and that it will be 90 minutes of sheer action entertainment with no depth, telling a story that is based on a video game. you won't be disapointed if you go into this movie expecting something not nearly as good as Gladiator or something.

Doom was better than I expected. my GF enjoyed it as well. i really REALLY am glad i'm not as picky about movies as 90% of people on this board are. I'm glad I know how to watch a movie knowing what to expect from it, and that way, i am rarely disappointed in movies.

EDIT AFTER READING THREAD:

if you reall think this is the worst movie ever, heck, even the worst video game movie ever ... go watch House of the Dead, Super Mario Brothers, or Alone in the Dark. THOSE are some crappy movies. I couldn't even make it through House of the Dead.

I too was pissed when I saw flashlights TAPED ONTO THE GUNS in the movie, but they couldn't think of that concept in Doom 3 the game ...

And if you went into the movie not knowing that the movie was all about mars and nothing about hell, you didn't do your research. that was a known fact about this movie months before it came out.

There's few movies that I ever felt that way about. Godzilla from 98.
The best part about seeing Batman and Robin and Speed 2 in a theater was the fact that I was in Texas, it was summer, and the theaters were well air-conditioned.

I am going to go see it tonight, I think this might be one of those movies where everyone is bashing it with crappy reviews because they did not know what to expect. As long as it has mass action, tons of gore and blood, then it's all good.

:)

Tough to say ... RE was cool for a game movie. Doom definitely has better acting than RE. If I had to watch another movie again, I would definitely choose Doom though.

If you like RE, you will like Doom. Doom has the R rating as well which made it 10x better than it would have been if it was PG-13, due to the language and gore.

Tomb Raider is different though, they are different movies. I enjoyed Tomb Raider 1, but the 2nd one I didnt like. I personally would take Doom over both RE and TR.
