Umm... I don't know if you noticed or not, but this IS STILL DOOM3.

Just different levels/addons. That's the point of the game, hell they even included a level modeler AS PART OF THE GAME in the installation CDROMs (IIRC). :)

And the guy in charge of the Linux port of the game was one of the guys that originally worked on the GtkRadiant (GtkRadiant was originally a fork from Q3Radiant stuff) stuff.

from this interview
GtkRadiant 1.5.0 just entered public beta with DOOM 3 support...

Yeah, William Joseph has taken over maintenance. Ever since I started crunching on DOOM I didn't have any time to spend on GtkRadiant, so he took over, and we wanted to provide a level editing solution that could work for DOOM 3. 1.5 is a pretty different version from 1.4; I don't think I've run any 1.5 builds yet, but the built-in editor of the Windows version evolved from Q3Radiant, not GtkRadiant, so its heavily non-portable. I would never have time to go through and make it portable *again*, so we decided to keep developing GtkRadiant, which we have already cleaned up and made fairly portable. Obviously there are some features that the built-in editor has that we don't have in GtkRadiant, dynamic preview of the lighting being one of them, but we might be able to find some solutions. I don't know what we might come up with, but there are some things to investigate.

Don't you realise that Id made this game easily hackable and extensable on purpose??

It's doom3 all the way, hope you can appreciate what work they did when they designed Doom3.

It's a hell of a lot more then just a the single player levels/story that came with the game.

check out this mod. Hope it works out

Hey Doom3 is in and of itself, awesome, although i think it failed to have the nostalgic kick that many of us were hoping for. This is a great project and says nothing negative about what Carmack and the guys have done with Doom3.

I didn't say anything about that at all.

He said that "this is what doom3 should have been", and I say that this is what doom3 IS.

It's a extensable gaming engine specificly designed for hobyists to create things like the Doom 1 remake, or team fortress doom3. The flashlight mods, add on pak files, all that is about what the Doom3 engine is designed for. It's not just the single player game that came with the CDROM install.

I am hoping that more and more mods will get added on and more and more hacks are created in order to keep single player fans playing Doom3 for a long long time.

Take for instance this doom 1 remake, how long has Doom 3 been out? Less then a month, and already they are as far along as they are? That stuff is cool.
