While it's true that some individuals (perhaps due to poor parenting, environmental influences, genetic predispositions, etc.) are easily affected by various media, not everyone feels compelled to pick up a shotgun and mimick the actions of the characters in video games.

Just because some people can't handle alcohol responsibly, we shouldn't ban the substance outright. The same goes for other aspects of our lives.

Let's be more diligent with our kids, and not blame the games they play or the movies they watch.

You hit the nail right on the head there, man.

My solution? Blame the child's parents rather than the media they see. We need to world proof the child rather than child proof the world. No one should have to give up their freedoms because a minority of parents cannot/willnot properly raise their kids.

In the end, it is NOT Doom or tobacco ads or peer pressure that is dangerous. It is the lack of proper guldence and counteracting influence from the parents that is dangerous.
After all that, I completely agree. Evidently, we had different ways of getting to the same point.

LOL 🙂 I guess my point is that ALL censorship in the name of "protecting the kids" needs to stop.

There is a very real fear when it comes to this subject. People will vigorously defend their position that entertainment media does not influence negative behavior because they KNOW what will happen if they agree that it can. That media will be censored in the same way tobacco advertising was censored.

The difference here is that they lose nothing when tobacco ads are banned but they lose their favorite form of entertainment when movies, TV and games are censored.

As I said, it all depends on who's bull is being gored. And that's just sad. Legal tobacco companies have lost their first amendment rights while other companies putting out media with bad examples have not.
