Just curious about interest among my fellow geeks...

My 2 cents? The track record for videogame movies hasn't been very good. Hollywood takes these properties that gamers like or love, bastardizes them, and hopes the name recognition will draw enough people in to make up for their utter suckage. The best video game movies, to date, haven't been very good when compared alongside the best in their respective genres.

I can't see this movie doing anything more than sucking, and the trailer doesn't help that - but yet I'm curious as to how bad it's going to suck.

Add: Seeing it in the theaters, because action movies are just better in THX...

The Rock has the acting ability of well...a rock. No pun intended.

That said; I am a big movie buff. I have invested much bucks, blood, sweat, tears and disturbing the peace calls in my home theater.

I love movies "the way they should be"; big picture, loud, earthshaking sound, no yappy teenagers, screaming kids or other detractions from my perfect movie experience.

I liked the video game; I even bought the expansion pack. :)

I will go see the movie "just because." I like the idea, I liked the game, I like being scared. :D Isn't that what this genre of movies has ALWAYS been about:?

I'd call that "Because it's good" or "Because it looks cheesily good."

Unless you want to see it solely because it's an action movie, quality being irrelevant.

Heh, what looked interesting was the first person perspective in the trailers... I just wish they stuck with the DOOM storyline.

Kinda my sentiments, but my morbid curiosity to how badly they abuse the property might not let me wait.

I really enjoyed the original Mortal Kombat and the Resident Evil movies.

That feels so gimmicky to me. It's like their thinking was, "Gamers will like the movie if it makes them feel like they're playing a game."

Doom is a classic video game; it redefined gaming back then. I agree, they should have stuck to the original story line, if nothing else but to honor one of the greatest games of all time.

What was the "original" Doom storyline? Are we talking "Lone Space Marine on Mars base, portal to hell opens, he kills millions of demons."

I mean, it didn't really have a story to begin with, and that concept would've obviously need to have some detail added and supporting cast. Watching 1 actor for 2 hours is pretty damned boring, even if he is running amok blowing sh!t up.

That said, from what I've heard of the script, the additions they made sound really dumb. I won't do spoilers for the people here who care, but if you look around, you can find some preliminary spoiler-laden reviews that make it sound pretty f*cktarded.
