Agreed.

Doom 3 was scary at least at first (although it was easy to get used to).

The engine was indeed next-gen and it looks pretty good even now. It looked great back then. Oh, and in 2004, when it came out, I had a GeForce 6800 that ran the game very well at either Medium or High settings (don't remember which). I do remember that it performed a whole lot better on nVidia cars than on ATI cards, but it was playable at low settings even on a Radeon 9600 that I had been using prior to getting the 6800. And it looked decent on low settings!

I played it on a 6800 at 1600*1200 on medium setting, with a few settings tweaked to high. It ran great on my system.

not sure if someone already posted this, someone already did a mod to make the old doom levels on the doom 3 engine. i played its...i think the music is updated so there is a band playing it. but i cant remember..

all i gotta say is its awesome. because the levels are exactly how i remembered them, but with awesome graphics..
bad thing is. that the imps still retain doom 3 movements, such as jumping at you. i dont believe they did that in the older ones.

I would so pay $30-40 for a Doom-Doom II remake with modern graphics.

Yeah, it's called Doom 3.

Doom 3's a sequel, not a remake.

nostalgia FTL

so do you want them to include the ability to not have to look up or down in those remakes?

a proper remake would include the option to aim with the mouse or play exactly like the original ;)

It's a mod called Classic Doom 3 but sadly, the team behind it only made the knee deep in the dead episode and moved on to something else, and an artist named Sonic Clang re-recorded the original themes from the game with real instruments and they turned out great, you can get the 192kbps mp3s here.

edit: FuryofFive beat me to it :p

Well doom III was alright, not great but im a little excited for doom IV, as long as its less repetitive and more involving than doom III was. They need to propely bring the doom franchise into the 21st centuary.

When Doom I and II came out I was playing Marathon so I wasn't too thrilled with the Doom series at the time, however I LOVED Doom 3, it had so incredible graphics at the time that my jaw literally dropped and the gameplay was incredible, nothing like playing with headphones in the dark, ahhh good times.

I'm thinking Doom 4 will not be like Doom 3 so I'm not too excited about it.

You were playing Marathon a year before it came out?

It was a piss-poor excuse to milk people of 50 bucks.
And the engine was not "next gen" or "awesome". It was very inefficient and only looked decent with bump mapping enabled, and at the time it came out that killed performance on every available system.

Good thing they let someone else produce Quake 4.

Agreed!..Doom,Doom 2 were fine,Quake 4 was good too but Doom 3 was a joke being boring not scarey and very disappointing game.

i do agree the graphics were not something to awww over. i always felt that Hl2 graphics at the time were much much better.
the game deserved a one through, thats about it.

When Doom 4 comes out and it's an open-world sandbox game with customizable characters, a level-up system, and automatically regenerating health, all you haters are going to be begging for Doom 3 back.

I only had a Mac at the time and Doom took a long time to come out on Mac, not that it mattered though, Marathon was a much more polished and complete game.
