DOOM III problems

My friend bought DOOMIII today and he experiences problems with the game
It hangs all the time,but never in a specific point.We tried different settings and res but nothing.After sometime the games hangs to the desktop.
He uses CAT 4.7 / dx9.0b and his rig is:

P43.0c
Gigabyte (800fsb) can't recall the model
1gb of pc3200
9800pro 128mb

What can be happening? Is there a known issue with the game?(e.g drivers)

try underclocking the grafx card, then try reinstalling the game. if all else fails, format c:

Everything's fine I doublecheked these things
I don't think it's a hardware issue since he's at stock speeds and I doubt that he has ever o/c it
Every other game runs just fine except this.

Oh and he just swapped a 128bit 9800pro for this 256bit 9800pro.He didn't change drivers since everything was running just fine.Can that cause a problem?

Any other ideas?

4.8 worked for me too.

I think there is, I had 4.6 before and D3 crashed, tried 4.7 samething, 4.8 have zero problems.
