I use 2k sp4 on one of my systems and dig it. Interesting about the big performance drop with 9x. Thanks for proving it can run on 9x to begin with  You would think that people would know never to say never by now....^

thanks guys :)
im really liking Win2k. i gotta get rid of those butt ugly boot screens tho

if you are going to run Doom III under Win9x youll need the latest drivers....

Doom III 1024x768, high qual
win9x 53.04 drivers = 22.8 fps
win9x 61.76 drivers = 36.1 fps
win2k 61.77 drivers = 51.1 fps

but at this point, its time to upgrade your OS.

You're really liking Win2k? Did you just switch over from 98 or something? I haven't seen anyone use windows 98 in at least 2 years. Even my grandmother doesn't use it anymore. :p

the last time i used win2k was back in the SP2 days. since then ive been trying really hard to "get happy" with WinXP. unfortunately i cant stand WinXP, so this time i decided to give Win2k another try insted of wasting my time with WinXP (again)..... and im really liking it :)

brief note: the CD check is still enabled!
do not msg me with your warez problems, i will not reply.

If you apply all the service packs and security updates to win2k, at uses just as much resorces as winxp, so i don't see much point in using it.

Bluescreens ahoy!
Because it's one less thing, ya know? There are overseas markets where 9x is still widely used. Hell, it's the only reason nV hasn't yanked support for it *from the horse's mouth* Being able to run D3 on 9x is a big deal for some of our members in those markets I'm certain. Not to mentioned that since it was officially stated that 9x wasn't a supported OS for D3, being able to run it is a cool hack :)

Stop updating at Service Pack 2 for Win2k.

I have Win2k SP2, and the only things I have added since then are security updates. SP3 and SP4 don't offer any performance or functionality enhancements (in fact, they add some bloatware). Win2k SP2 + Security Updates is the fastest, most stable, cleanest Windows available, period. I love it to death.

Can anyone with an Ati card Win98 and D3 run some benchies? If not, I guess I could hopefully in a couple days once my D3 gets here.
