Post what you liked about Doom III, and any game input/experiences :)

Well, I got it Tuesday, beat it Wednesday, and I was pretty darn impressed. The graphics really were something to admire, I was pleasantly suprised to find that I could play it again, without getting bored either, a great game. For a game that took 4 years to make, i'd say it lived up to the hype, I don't know what people were expecting, who say they don't like the game, but each to his own I suppose. Anyway, if anyone wants to post cool stuff they liked about the game, please do! :) I know I was pretty impressed with the cyberdemon, my ONLY gripe is the fact that they left the spider mastermind out :(

UPDATE! MartianBuddy, id is so creative, they made another site just for this, if anyone ever remembered seeing those "Martian Buddy" lockers around the game, and wondered how to open them, I had an idea, they included a .com at the end of it! So I typed that into google, and whammo! Try that code to see if it opens the locker up in game! (Code 0508)

LOCKER CODES
-(I'm replaying the game on veteran mode, so I figure i'd document the locker codes, see if I can help some peeps, these are all in order, as you will encounter them)

LOCKERS

001 = 396, contains bullets
023 = 531, contains armor shard, small medkit
017 = 347, contains armor, shells, health
013 = 586, contains armor, grenades, clips
Martian Buddy 1 = 0508, contains chaingun and ammo
038 = 409, contents unknown
039 = 102, contains armor and clips

DOORS

Marine Storage Command = 584, contains all basic weapons and ammo

The fact that you beat it in ONE day says something IMO...something negative. Where was the challenge?

Why is that negative? He was so addicted that he couldn't stop playing. I think that's positive actually. :)

Yeah, sure you were. Like every other Doom enthusiast who "missed" work or school the past couple of days. ;)

The vast majority of games i play i beat in 2-3 days, and this would have been similar... if i played all day as well... but i've only been playing at night, so i can't put as many hours into it.

the only thing hyped about this game is that you'd need a good grafx card to play it. Gameplay is nothing special, typical fps run-n-gun. I don't see why people are praising the overall game so highly, the only good thing about it is the grafx.

I think the game is great. I am half way thru and every room is different, you can tell alot of time and effort went into this game. And how good it is optimized is just awsome. I have never seen a game run so great with that kind of graphics. Overall I am very impressed. What can I say, best game in YEARS. Im my opinion alot better than farcry.

In my opinion the gameplay has some things going for it. The fact that there could be something popping out of every corner keeps your interest. The fact that you can't have your gun and flashlight out at the same time is masterful because it's a tradeoff between seeing what's coming at you and being ready to shoot it. The engine works well too. It has a solid feel to it, you know the feeling that it's really polished, your mouse movements take you where you want to go, and things interact well. I remember playing Unreal 2 and thinking, gee, the graphics are pretty good, but this game sure sucks! In U2, bullets would disappear when you shoot walls, enemies behave in strange ways, animations were awkward, and the bad guys don't even give you much indication when you shoot them unless they unimpressively fall on the floor. Doom 3 doesn't have any of these problems. It immerses you into the game. A lot of that is graphics, but the sound and control are also an integral part, and those were implemented quite well. I can't wait to see some of the games and mods they put out using this engine.

Well, I got it Tuesday, beat it Wednesday,

Hi, Glad you liked it , me too. I have a question for you as I am just on the first Alpha level. Does it get to a point where there are well lit rooms or is it always very dark?

Yes, some areas are very well lit, but sometimes you'll be in a very well lit area, you'll hear demonic laughter, and it goes pitch black MUAHAHAHA :)

I dont' think some people understand like how good this game is, i'm not saying it's incredible or anything; but there are certain aspects to this game that are just so immersive.

The best parts in the game are when you're running around, the lights are flashing, they flicker out, and you're like...oh sh1t. I got my z680's turned up, and the surround sound is great, you can HEAR the footsteps of stuff approaching, and you're like, OH GOD!!! lol...anyway what i'm getting at is the audio in the game is very intense, sure sometimes i didn't think some of the sounds fit to what was happening in the game, but a lot of the time , i'd be spinning around because i heard something, only for it to be a little bit of machinery working.

It is really fun! All games seem too short when you can beat them in a day or two, but that also means you enjoyed playing them too.

I'll be waiting on Half Life 2, and Halo 2, i'm sorta looking forward to Halo2 more, just because the first one has given me COUNTLESS ours of fun between me and my friends. But this game was very fun, and can make you jump at certain times.

Another thing i like in the game is when it's so dark, and you're peeking into a little space, and you're like, am i supposed to go that way? It's so dark you can't even tell there's just a wall there, but it's even better when you walk toward it, and a horrible flesh eating zombie jumps out at you! heh, oh well those are my 2 cents, nothing too revolutionary, but damn fun nonetheless!

Well i haven't gotten to any very light parts of the game, it's all very moody and stuff, but i'll tell you this... BEWARE THE BATHROOMS :D lol, those parts are fun though...

i've never seen a game look so good on a budget card (sapphire radeon 9200 atlantis 128mb/128bit)... the fact that it scares me (aside from diablo 1, no other game really has) makes it awesome.

*cracks knuckles* just beat it on novice...

gonna start medium difficulty tomorrow.

fscking end boss kept kicking me off ledges. :(

The bathrooms are ok, i love how the mirror shows a PERFECT reflection except one flaw.. its not blinding when you angle the light so it should hit your face off the mirror. =/

I only have one issue with the game... Bullet holes dont stay in anything. I had fun pistoling any cans and laptops i passed, but i wanted a more reactive environment... :(

and, it would have been a cheesy rip off of half-life, but i was so looking forward to pushing buttons on the soda machines..

BTW, im on a Geforce 4 Ti4200 800x600 medium quality, lighting, bump mapping, shadows and it runs great at 40fps+

Note: YOU CANNOT PLAY THIS GAME WITHOUT SHADOWS! Sometimes your in a room with windows to the outside martian air, which is whats lighting the room... all of a sudden you see a massive shadow stalking across the room, look up and see something outside the glass looking at you, and then skittering away..

Also, in the hell levels monsters look massive, the lighting in that area is done beautifully. The optics engine OWNS. The sound engine is a little "Meh" but its not bad.

Thankfully the ambushes arent as lame as half life..

Several months ago, I predicted that once you got used to the pretty graphics, D3 would be more "been there, done that"... Boy was I wrong.

I've only played it for an hour, or so... But I don't recall a game making me this tense since *maybe* the original Resident Evil.

And yes, having to choose between the flashlight and your weapon is simply genious. (Btw, can your flashlight ever die?)

It has unlimited batteries. I went through an area where an EMP pulse makes it go out, but only for a few seconds. I suggest binding it to an extra mouse button if you can, seems easier than the F key to me. F can become something else then.

The flashlight doesn't die, but your stamina sure does, I hate having to walk instead of run :)

Wingznut, that's exactly what I was thinking! The game is very immersive for me.
