"Stalker - Oblivion Lost." The game is still in development, just like Doom III.
The screenshots are absolutely unbelievable. It looks like a movie.

Impressive screenshots:
Ever get arrested for posession? (this is an in-game screenshot!!)
Beautiful sunset
Do you commute to work?
Air support
He is afraid of the dark
Say Hi
Looks like Doom III sometimes
Follow the white... rabbit?
Time for your anal exam

More screenshots (official Web site). I think the game is coming out at the end of this year. You can read the IGN preview here (thanks for the link, CrowDog).

Storyline - The beginning:
"April 12, 2006, 02:33 p.m.
Chernobyl zone was lit by an intolerably bright light. The clouds were evaporating in the silver bright sky with a thunder and earthquake to follow. People fell on the ground facedown closing their bleeding eyes and ears. The glow spread over an immense territory which was subsequently called the Zone. People ran away saving their lives. It looked like a radioactive explosion at the nuclear plant occurred. The army sealed off the Zone..."

3d engine info for the technically curious.

Newer Doom III screenshots if you must compare it to Doom III.

I'm sorry but Doom 3's graphics blows those out of the water. There is no comparison.

Doom III is indoors, from what I saw. This is a full-blown indoors and outdoors environment..

Sick - altho I'm not *that* impressed with the resolution of many of the textures, but the detail is very nice :)

Ya i gotta agree, these graphics easily compare to doom 3's, doom 3 is just A LOT darker of a game, and it tricks you into thinking they are way better, but even if they are this is one of the few games that comes close

Boy, I can't agree at all, and I have seen the leaked Doom 3 movie and a lot of screenshots. I just can't agree that D3 surpasses this level of detail. From what I have seen, D3 is very dark, and most of its impressiveness comes from its lighting, rather than textures.

Good point. I will also put this screenshot into my list above.

It looks great, but it's a generation behind doom.

I've played D3 and there is just no competition. Even in Alpha, it blows this game away.

I would love to see them make "Operation Flashpoint 2" with that engine :D!

Having played the leaked Doom III alpha (naughty naughty...) I think that Doom wins on the graphical front.

Stalker looks sorta like Rainbow 6/Hidden & Dangerous but with more polygons and better textures. The thing about Doom III is that the lighting is so very dynamic and everything works so well together.

Good idea. It is hard to compare them apples-to-apples because Doom is obviously more sci fi-oriented, whereas this game looks a lot more realistic. It makes it hard to say one is better than the other. That said, I have not seen anything from D3 that looks meaningfully better than this. The post-Chernobyl theme has promise as well IMO.

IGN Preview, Youl see its nothing like either of those games. Its said to have some RPG elements and a few other inovative ideas that combine to make a very interesting title, add the beutiful graphics..... and you have got my atttention.
