Many people are playing DOOM3 as I type.Copies Have been released, so said. I called my BB and they have copies in store but wont released until WED. I know it can be had from various places but any true gamer would gladly pay the premium price for this game to have it ASAP. I am so Confused. I guess I will continue to beat my head against the desk until WED. But I am Curious what others would do, so The POLL>

That's my thinking too, the PCGamer "review" is worthless since they likely had to promise to give a positive spin in exchange for the exclusive.

I Guess one could D/L the warez just for Hardware testing and Personal Gameplay review (that would be OK, Right), Personally I dont think DOOM3 needs a review The name speaks for itself. :)

I'm not gonna buy Doom 3. Never planned to.
Downloading is a different matter tho...

I'm not hugely hyped by it, I prefer online multiplayer (just had my first clan match, we kicked ass), but I'm gonna dl to see what all the fuss is about.

I know someone who is donwloading because their pre-order copy won't arrive for another few days tho.

Weds?
I've checked with BB myself and their relese date is Tuesday.
One BB here is also having a midnite sale event inviting people to line up starting at 10:30 pm Monday night. It was advertised in a Sunday circular inthe newspaper.

id is a great company. and worked extremely hard for 4 years. They deserve the money if you plan on playing their game.

lots of people here in europe are downloading DOOM3 right now.

"Hey, why should everyone else get it a week or two before its scheduled for UK release? I'll still be paying for it then..." Few days later, "might aswell cancel the pre-order since played it now".
or, "hey if they dont care enough about our custom to release it here same time as the amiericans i dont care enough to pay them either".
or, "I've worked hard for >4 years, I look at their cars, my car... I figure I need the money more than they do"
etc etc etc
Of course thats only the only the chaps with something of a concience about this sort of thing.
Not that I can say for sure I'd still wait if I had a connection where downloading would be remotely feasable. I'm 99% sure I'd be keeping the pre-order though... Unless it was crap, yeah I'd cancel and be glad to do so then.

but I have to say it doesnt take an idiot to figure out a non-simultaneous release is only going to add to the number of people downloading, and still piss off those who do buy. I mean, yeah great nice one chaps, the pirates get the whole thing two weeks earlier, probably soon wont have to piss about with annoying CD checks or having to keep track of the bloody cdkey... unlike mr chump here who actually pays for the thing. All those old video piracy ads (probably UK-only ones) about pirate products being low quality etc are something of an irony now - pirate product is often better than the legal one.

I think it's pretty messed up when people who want to go out and buy the game legit CANNOT, but people who want to STEAL the game can do so fairly easily.

The industry needs a better system of releasing games. Like buying the game online and getting a download/account update that you own the game, sorta what Steam is going for. Hopefully they've worked the bugs out of that system for HL2.

I want to help make games someday, so I can't download them. Must resist!

EDIT: Maybe I'll go out tonight or tomorrow and see if anyone is selling early either by not knowing they aren't supposed to or on purpose. I'll probably just be wasting my time though =(

I say wait and buy when it is legally available for purchase. I am on a self-induced wait to buy D3: I must finish CoD and Far Cry before I buy D3. I already rushed though MOHAA. :D

You know what would be sweet? Give a date that it would be available for download, and a date that it would be available in stores. The download date would be the time they start shipping the game, that way EVERYONE can get a copy that wants one. By having it available to download, they can shift the production cost of CDs/DVDs, manuals, boxes, to high speed connections needed to make high speed downloads possible. The people that don't have a broadband connection can get it at the stores when it arrives. I think this would be a GREAT solution. I'd definitely pay to download it.

Imagine the bandwidth cost of 1.5GB per user PER download. You couldn't just allow someone to download it once, it would have to be lifelong download ability. That's a lot of bandwidth.

But the money you're paying for the game should surely cover that.

I'm sure the cost of bandwidth is far less than what the middle men add onto the cost of the game. (EB is making money you know). You're also eliminating the need to make the cds, box, manual, etc which would shave off a bit more $$$ and help the environment! Heh heh.

EDIT: Obviously you'd limit the number of times one particular account can download one specific purchased game in a week.

We already have that. It's called Steam, and it sucks.

anyone who uses a warez version of this game deserves to have their PC taken away from them...

id, and Valve, are two of the last big companies that put out great games for the PC - you warez monkies are going to push game developers to go more and more to the consoles....and with the next gen of consoles coming in the next two years, the few PC developers left are going to be very tempted to make PC games as an afterthought, which would be a terrible thing.

Wrong.

I never had ANY intention to buy the game, and this back back before I even had broadband. I was NOT going to give id my money for this game, I was just going to not play the game. I'm not hyped about it.
Sure, people stealing is wrong, and I agree, but they are not losing ANY money if I warez a game, same as many people aren't losing money if I download an album, hell, if I buy an album second hand!
It doesn't make what I may or may not do right, but it does't take anything away from the games developers if you were going to go without anyway.

And for the post above, be glad Doom 3 is only released a few days later in Europe.
Deus Ex 2 was delayed by something like 4 months.
I WAS intending to buy that game, based on the first one, but screw Ion Storm if they are going to make me wait 4 months for NO reason (game was still as buggy and slow when it was released here AFAIK), if you want me to be fair to you and give you money, be fair to me and let me play the game when others can play the game, or I'll make it happen myself.

It doesn't matter if you intended to buy it. You probably never intend to buy a Ferrari, so if you just TAKE one, does it really matter?

What's so difficult to understand, if you want something that's for sale, you buy it. If you don't buy it, you're stealing.

You should be banned for this. Encouraging warezzing games, which harms the gaming industry, and thus harms Anandtech. Your hatred for AT is apparent, and you are scum.
