Mirrors are getting clamped fast by Id. I need a linky here. Anyone got it? It appears Gamespy has already had it crunched.

Well as you may know, Trent Reznor is the lead singer of NIN. And he's a big fan of the id game genre. He composed a series of alternate sounds for Doom 3. This pack evidently installs, and changes the game sounds to be MUCH more frightening. And it also changes the machine gun sound, to be just a LIIITLE bit more realistic :)

I don't know about making the game sounds more frightening, but it makes the sounds of weapons carry more umph. The pistol and shotgun sounds improve (the pistol doesn't sound so weak and the shotgun has just a better sound). Mostly it seems to have made them louder.

Why on earth would you want to make the pistol sound any stronger? Its an incredibly weak weapon, heck its worse than fighting with your flashlight with the exception that it has great range and accuracy with that range - I would have much preferred a powerful rifle to the machine gun or the pistol, or at least a pistol that packed some real punch. With a new sound it might actually have bark but it'd decieve its true bite.

I love the pistol, its your best friend when you want to conserve ammo, plus I love having shootouts with the UAC zombie marines :)

Oh man, I just tested it out...pistol and assault rifle are MUCH improved. Shotgun is pretty much the same, just a little more staying....haven't gotten the chaingun yet or run into any of the enemies. More details to come.

It replaces the standard sounds, but if you look in the readme all you have to do to get the old stuff back is remove the pak file from your Doom3/base directory.

Trent Reznor was pulled from the project early on... remember reading about it. Think it was, because he was working too slow for Carmack's taste or more likely they butted-heads. That's why id/Activision is keen on purging it from the net.

i thought it had more to do with "politics" in a sense, his management could not work out anything with activision or something. does anybody have a link that shows what exactly happned? i have heard many differant things. any ways, i wish trent would have been on the team, this sound pack, tho small, is a huge improvement over stock sound.

Someone on the page linked above stated that it messed up the channel decoding for the sound.

Has anyone experienced this or is it all good to go? I DL'd it but don't want to install it if it's going to hose anything.
