I just read an article saying that they will be doing testing on Doom 3 most likely into late summer. System requiremnets that they suggest are: video card with at least 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 1.1 support and a 2.5GHz CPU should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations. Man I can't wait for this game! Sucks they keep pushing it back!

Wel, those reqs are FUD (no offense). Carmack himself stated that official system requirements are:
- Original GeForce 256/Radeon video card
- 256 Megs of RAM
- 1 GHz P3 or Athlon (non-crippled CPU obviously since a 1GHz Celery will die a horrible death)

These are very modest requirements, and the game will indeed run on a DX7 level card (hell it even runs on a Radeon 7000, you can guess how well). With a GeForce 256 you can get about 15 FPS at 640*480 (preferably lower res. mode if it will be available) and all details set to lowest. If there will be lower res modes like 512*384 or something with all settings to lowest I guess you'd be able to squeeze 20-25 FPS out of the minimal config system (that's just a speculation on my part). Of course, it will look like crap but it'll run.

I totally agree, if you will go to www.idsoftware.com or look at the Doom 3 official website you will see that the game will run as previously stated by booster, but I think I saw the cpu requirement at 800MHz, I am not entirely sure on that. Furthermore I am extremely proud of Carmack, he was quoted saying he would release Doom 3 several months after Half-Life 2. But now he is realizing that will never happen; the official release date is April 15, 2004.. In otherwords tax day... You can already pre-order the game from www.ebgames.com.

I think my system will be more than sufficent, you be the judge..

ThermalTake SuperTower XASER III Chasis (7fans)
ANTEC 450Watt SmartPower P/S
AMD 3000+ (2.17) GHz
1 Gb Hyper-X DDR 3200
ATI 9800XT 256Mb
120 Gb HD (8Mb)
Audigy2 ZS

There is also a website I apoligize for not knowing but if you type in the search on google theirs a site where you enter the specs of your system and they tell u if your computer is sufficent enough to run the game...

I would be very surprised if Doom III is released in April. I was thinking late summer, likely September.

Who cares?

When it's out, it's out. You'll only be disappointed if it gets delayed, or if it's hyped up so much and it's not as good as you thought (Matrix films come to mind)

I care. "When it's out it's out" is BS. Everyone wants to see it as soon as possible.

Yeah, so do I. However, i'm not getting myself hyped up about it, or worrying about it all the time. When it's out, it's out, but of course the sooner the better. Also, I'm going to avoid ALL demos, previews, reviews, and any other type of "views" of it until I've got it on my system and I'm playing it. Otherwise, i know i am going to be disappointed if it doesn't live up to the hype!

I'm not the least bit hyped up about it. I just think it's funny when you get the people saying "I don't care if it's delayed" or "the longer we wait the better it will be" or something along those lines when you know perfectly well they want the game to be released now just as much as everyone else. The bottom line is that you care, I care, and 90% of the people on this board care when Doom 3 is released.

. . pretty but stupid

But it's going to be sooo freakin pretty :D

Based on current rumblings it wouldn't shock me if we saw something playable of DooM3 released somewhere around April 13th give or take a few days. Not saying that it will, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me if nothing hit, but what I'm hearing at this point leads me to believe that this is a real possibility.

I've played around with that Alpha release they were running at E3 way back when. They have a lot of code optimization to do to get that game operating under Carmack's original specs. I tried playing it on a AthlonXP+2100, Ti4600, 768MB PC3000, and with all details down and low res, I might have been pulling around 16fps. That was after trying to disable all the neat stuff like the excellent shadows and lighting in the game. I'm as anxious as the next guy for this to come out, but I think the original minimum requirements are going to change (in the upward direction). Besides, what is the point if you can't play the game with all the features? I can go play the orginal Doom if I wanted that experience. Nevertheless, it's been a long enough time, you would think they'd have a finished product out by now. Personally, I think they're just stalling for hardware to improve, i.e. R420, NV40 and PCI-Express.

Anand had some benches back for the NV35 debut and it showed the game playing decently on GF4 level hardware and nudging 100FPS on NV3X hardware. It's Carmack, in no way whatsoever am I worried about the game being anything less then optimal in terms of performance versus visuals. If your rig is a bit too slow to handle it, it is because your rig is too slow to handle it and not due to anything wrong with the code base.

My only real interest in this game is that the engine will probably get licenced to many other projects, including RPGs and tactical games.

Other than that, it's just the 657,994th shooter to hit the market.

if this is just another shooter to you then you aren't a shooter fan...

Engine has already been licensed to the team making Quake 4, which will be much more multiplayer oriented than Doom3 will be...

The alpha from E3 (2 years ago by the way, there was no 'alpha' at E3 last year) is so old it's not even relevant.

If you saw the game at Quakecon 03, then you know what it looks like - that is, better than anything you have yet to see on your PC...

I expect a Doom 3 'test' to show up very soon, to take some of the thunder away from the UT2004 launch, as well as the other shooters out now or coming soon...
