I don't know about you guys...

But the game is fun for lots of people. Everybody in my family likes playing it (except for my mom).

Hell they wanted a new computer for their anniversery so I put them together a nice new AMD64 machine (9800 pro, 1gig 400ddr, 200gig maxtor, 3400+ amd64...) and as soon as I was finished I ran right down and bought them a copy of Doom3.

My father and that computer has been pretty much inseperable.

Me? When I visit I just play at veteran level difficulty. It's hard enough and fast enough to keep my attention. And otherwise I play online FPS normally, and any single player game pales in comparision of difficulty compared to playing against other humans.

Maybe the game was to overhyped for you and you drank of the coolaid too deeply. Well in that case, that's what you get for caring too much about a stupid video game. Doom3 is plenty fun, and it's fun for more then then just "hardcore" gamers.

I find two things that I don't like about the game, and the second one is simply my personality:

1) Monster spawns. They have become so predictable that I do the "chow chow" walk into every new area.... you know, 1 step forward to steps back... only a step = like 100 feet of game distance. So I advance and retreat constantly. If I pick up a treasure I spin about and shoot the inevitable monster. It's okay at first but quickly becomes tiresome. I feel like it's a cheap shot.

2) I don't like bosses. Running in circles unloading all my horded ammo and then dying 10 times in a row (probably more) is simply not my thing. And when a boss fight starts, it always locks you totally in with them like an arena. So not my thing. As I recall, I never finished the boss fight in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I died numerous times and then just stopped playing it. I fear a similar inclination will take me for Doom 3.

But I do agree that Doom 3 is basically exactly what it's trying to be, and pretty much what I expected. I enjoy it quite a lot, but I do cuss at the spawn monsters and bosses. I guess that means I cuss a lot.

That's exactly what Quake IV will be.

Actually I read that Quake 4 will be Quake 2 with Doom 3 graphics.

Quake 2 was way better than Q3 Arena.

Get off your fvcking high horse.

Software doesnt get nearly enough traffic as it should. People post crap in OT about games and programs most of the time. I've been trying to drive traffic over here for quite a while with humorous "Wrong Forum" posts. But finally when someone comes in to talk about something, they post YET ANOTHER thread about a game that has already been discussed OVER AND OVER AND OVER INSTEAD OF USING THE FORUM'S BUILT IN SEARCH FUNCTION. A quick search produces OVER 5 FULL PAGES OF DOOM 3 THREADS. FIVE. That's over 100 threads dedicated to mostly complaining, tweaking, and help with Doom 3.

Then we get people like YOU coming in here, and instead of even posting about the thread itself, ignore the original post and and try to act like a big brother who's little sister just had her hair pulled by a big bully, inadvertently completely contradicting yourself. You hypocritic oaf.

pwned.

Really? I think not. Sorry zeek, but "wrong Forums" hasn't been "humorous" since....NEVER! Who the FVCK are you to police the forums? Trying to "drive traffic over here", come on! So the dude started another Doom3 thread, who cares? Easy to crap on it and hard to ignore it, huh?

As for the game, I don't have it yet, but I did install the demo. I've only played it for a little bit, but I love what I see so far. a few times I almost jumped outta my chair. I'm looking forward to picking it up and playing the entire game.

I am glad I waited to buy the game until I found a used copy for $40. I played the original doom... it was OK, not my "type" of game. Doom 3 is fun at first and then very predictible. I will just wait patiently for better games to come out... playing this engine more than once just sucks!

The more people that know Doom III is CRAP, the better.

It belongs in the bargain bin - NOW

I was really disappointed with this "HYPED" game, original Doom was awesome, maybe it`s because the originality is now too common with other games, lucky I got my copy free(gift from my brother)anyway there`re lots of better games out that`ll keep me going :).

If you want a challenge play it on nightmare now.

Doom 3 demons are F****** DEAF!!!!!. HL AI was much better than D3, and they could hear.

I can't believe ID could release a game in 2004 with such poor AI. The whole point of the game was to showcase the engine, not be fun.

agreed...glad I got to borrow a copy...me save $$$. It wasn't awful, it's just been done before, and MUCH better

From my understanding, Quake IV will have a stand-alone single player campaign that's basicly a frantic 'action shooter' style along the lines of you and a marine squad attacking Strogg installations. (As well as a few Doom III style levels). I also read that the Quake IV multiplayer will basicly be Q3A on steriods. In other words, Q3A revamped with the Doom III engine.

You're probably right since I'm not up on it much. But I hope you're wrong. Q2 deathmatch was awesome. I prefered Q2 deathmatch over any other online shooters, especially squad/team type games. And I definately preferred Q2 deathmatch over anything Q3 offered.

So what about multiplay? We're told to have no fear. "Our goal is to re-create the Quake III: Arena experience in the new engine." Willits tells us. "We're going to deliver more than four players [Doom 3's multiplayer max], no matter what."

Some might hear those words and feel glum that Quake IV is not promising any kind of multiplayer revolution. But I'd say "Not so fast" Arena-style multiplay in Carmack's latest engine sounds like plenty of revolution to me.

The primary multiplayer modes are expected to be the Arena staples of deathmatch and team capture-the-flag. Since Raven is concentrating on the game's single-player campaign, work is still very early on the multiplayer componant, there's nothing to show off publicly. However Willits reports that level designers have been testing out some early maps, and they say "It feels right already."

No plans currently exist to transfer any of the vehicles found in the single-player game over to multiplay. The official line for now is that vehicular combat is too associated with multiplayer-only shooters like Battlefield 1942. Their feeling is that Quake is Quake...and there's no need to mess around with a good thing. Unofficially, I got the feeling that vehicle implementation might have been welcomed, but it just couldn't be worked into the design before it was too late.

I think it's harder than original Doom and ppl seem to worship that game.

Someone I know also said that; I think I'll pick up the original Doom and see what that's like, maybe I'll find it harder since the first time I played Half-Life (which wasn't that long ago actually) I was struggling a lot more than I was with D3...

If you never even played the original Doom, you have no right to complain.

So because I've never played the original Doom I have no right to complain about how easy Doom 3 is? Interesting logic...

You have no right to complain because you were not a part of the original like many of us were.

We didnt just play it, we were a part of Doom.

Doom is about atmosphere. Doom is about fear. Doom is about claustrophobia.

If you up the difficulty, you'll beg for mercy.

ps: How are you finding the TIME to reply? I thought you were very busy at work.

If he paid money for a copy of the game, then he has every right to complain about its crappiness.

Yah know the one thing that i hate about people who make threads like this is the fact that they haven't even played the original. You cant comment on a game until you play the original. For some of us the novelty of reliviing way back when is enough.

Of course there is going to be nothing new in the game as it is a remake of Doom!!

i dont see how you can say this is easy.... i for the first time played on regular instead of hard and i have never jumped so many times in a game before. I mean when before have you seen an AI that when shot at will shoot up a wall disappear in the rafters and what not and later appear behind you. Not me!! I know Half Life is a good game but nonetheless the AI was not like it is in DIII. Also we ARE talking about zombies here. Get it ZOMBIES... generally mindless so what do you really think they are going to hear your every move!!?

Like i said before the novelty of reliving the past is enough for me and i am very pleased with the game.

graphics? what graphics are you talking about? 80% of the game is in near darkness i could hardly admire the gfx even at high settings.

the monsters are all the same, sure its fun the first 4 levels or so.. but then it gets boring
