Heya, I just bought a new computer... er... P4 3.2 (prescott), 512ddr (PC3200) (which I'll upgrade in a few weeks to 1gb), and a GeForce FX5700 256mb(as is... not Ultra, not LE, etc).

I was just wondering about performance running at 1024x768 on high quality?

Can anyone give me some straight forward tips on overclocking my card? Is it dangerous? What are the pitfalls? Can you damage your card? What's safe and worthwhile?

Any info'd be much appreciated.

Regards,
Ross

The 5700 is a decent card. And overclocking it would yield some performance gains. Try overclocking the core and memory by 10% each, that is usually a very safe starting ground. And do a google search on a reg. entry called "coolbits" it is like a key that unlocks an overclocking utility in the nvidia driver, and is quite easy to use.

you should be able to run 800x600 at high w/ some goodies turned on.

or 1024x768 w/ some goodies turned off.

Yep, I run at 800 x 600, with all special effects turned on, and I never go below 32 FPS. Just leave AA/AF off.

Hey, it does what I ask it to, what's not to love? :) (Well, see my post on overclocking barrier for my only gripe)
