Lots of fun yet laggy. Reminds me of trying to play Quake1 multi on my 486 through aol. I love the darkness and the fact that a lot of the levels have rooms where you can turn out the lights. One level called "lights out" is really cool because one room has a generator that powers the entire level. When you shut the generator down, the entire level goes dark except for a few places. Causes a lot of fun chaos to ensue :D.

Also, the fists disarm your oponent which I've found to be another fun dm element.

So yea, its cool yet its really hard to play online with fps problems.

So that's a feature huh... I did that to one guy and wasn't sure what I did... punched the chaingun right out of his hand then turn around and killed him with it lol. We were both kinda like wtf?

It does suck that the game slows down so much though... 1/2 the time it's server lag, the other 1/2 it's video lag. Insane that a game can bring a XP 3000+, 1GB RAM, and a 9700 Pro to it's knees like that even with all the graphics all the way down. Safe to say the D3 engine will be around for years to come.

Just tried it. found a server with 32 ping and lag was sooo bad, it came to a complete halt many times and I have a 3200+ 1.5 gig RAM & 9800 pro.

Looks like it will otherwise be a great multiplayer game though. Just needs a few patches under it's belt. :)

I doubt it was lag unless you have a terrible internet connection. Did you have your FPS onscreen to see what your fps was during fights?

Use all seeing eye to find servers that you have a low ping and 0 packetloss to.

I'm on cable and all other games I play are fine (including BF 1942 and Vietnam), plus I've been playing singleplayer with no lag. Everyone else in the game was also experiencing the same results, We all turned are video quality down to minimum and still had the lag. I did not have the FPS on the screen though.

I thought multiplay was unplayable.....and this with just the standard 4 person game. Way too laggy. I'm usually near the top ping wise with SoF2 DM so I figure it's not my connection.

Played it at a small LAN this past weekend. Buttery smooth, naturally - LAN and a dedicated server. ;)

Got kinda dull after awhile, but the Flashlight-Beating matches were fun. Don't forget to close the shutters in Lights Out as well.

Oh, and where's the effin' BFG/chainsaw? We couldn't find it in any MP maps. :(

For some reason my server browser is so messed up. I have to try to join literally 15+ servers before I get in one that's not passworded or full (despite filters or what the browser screen tells me).

Once I'm playing its just a basic DM though, good graphics but no new gameplay really. I much prefer UT2004 for FPS multiplayer over D3.

Yah, we played it on a lan this weekend. Had to drop my res down a notch that I normally play just fine in SP to get decent frame rates. It was fun but the 5 maps did get old pretty quick, look forward to some aftermarket maps. The fact that if you mod the config to allow more than 4 players in the game you still only see stats and slots for 4 players is a drag but I'm sure some a mod will fix that if there isn't already.

If you were lagging and your FPS and bandwidth are both good and everyone else is lagging. It is most likely an underspecced server. Don't keep playing on the server, just move to another.

Also, the ingame browser for doom3 is FSCKING TERRIBLE. Dunno who thought that abortion up, but use All Seeing Eye if you are trying to play online. With the ingame browser I could not find a single server that I pinged 60 to that would let me in. So I loaded up all seeing eye and found TONS that I pinged >50 to, that had tons of people and would let me in.

FYI:
For Singleplayer I use 1024/High
For Multiplayer I use 800/Low. And still tweaking. The more FPS the better in multiplayer...

Must have been the server. I did use the in-game browser and it was the only server I could find that didn't require a password.
