Doom 3 expected next year

According to an article at : 'Though id Software basically invented the idea of using "when it's done" as a release date, and thus did not specify a release date when DOOM 3 was announced, many have been assuming that the game would be available for this year's holiday season. Now a report on HomeLAN Fed cites Activision's 2003 release calendar and quarterly financial conference call.. [saying that] Activision admits that this matter is entirely in id's hands, but that they are not expecting the game this year, and have it "penciled" on their calendars for fiscal Q4 (Jan-March) 2004.' Additionally, Quake IV is now due in Fiscal 2005 (which begins April 2004)."

So what are we realistically looking at? Oct-Dec 2004? Lol.

Probably,

People need not to worry about the hardware they will be using because we will probably be at 4 ghz, or 2.5 ghz Hammers..

I will still worry, I got a XP 2000+ and a Gf4MX *YUCK* even by Dec 2004 I probably won't have a better video card. Unless Doom III comes out when Duke Forever does. I'ma be in trouble.

quake2 engine

i think it will never come out. but i know doom3 will come out cause id has the $. but i would rather id make doom3 than raven

I believe Id is working on stretching the gameplay out longer. They've been doing quality-over quantity on the maps and I think they may have figured out the game will be too short. Since it's focused on single-player this may be a good thing.

There will be a few games to tide me over: Half-Life 2, Tron 2.0 etc. that will be out so I would rather wait "until it's done" rather than get it now and have it disappoint. I'm sure Activision doesn't give a crap when they finish - it's not like it's a game that needs a holiday rush to make it sell.

Actually, they started off with the Quake2 engine, then went to Unreal Engine(the one used just after the original unreal), and have completly redesigned the whole engine, it has new renderers, sound systems, physics engines, ect;
They have never used the Quake3, UT or UT2003engines.

I hope something comes out soon. Like the next Splinter cell, metal gear solid, GTA 4, anything!. Even on the consoles, games have been coming out slow. Except for the Resident Evil series on Game Cube which I like. However I do not own a Game Cube and I will not bow down to Capcom and buy the awfully supported Lame Cube.
