Taken from gamspot new today:
A new page on the Nvidia Web site has revealed that the company has struck a deal with the makers of Doom 3.

According to the page, Activision and id Software are now advising that the game be played on machines using GeForce FX graphics cards. "Nvidia is pleased to announce that id Software recommends the GeForce FX family of graphics processing units for DOOM 3," said the post.

Terms of the Doom3/Nvidia deal were not disclosed.

Ok, now i just hope the deal is just publicity...and not a prelude to some kind of buggy video game when you don't use the right brand...

We knew this was going to happen, after ATI got their HL2 deal, Nvidia had to get Doom III IMO.

The whole thing is silly. All we need now is another delay of Doom III, and we're back in the same boat just like ATI and HL2. With the customers left holding worthless coupons. When HL2 arrives, will ATI have the fastest card to play the game or will nvidia?

In a related story,
"id Software is pleased to announce that instead of company vans, they now have company Ferrari's."

Seems like a simple paid endorsement to me. No mention or even hint that FX hardware will run Doom 3 better than anything else.

*shrug* Independent benchmarks and image tests will show us the best video card to use with Doom 3. Still, id might see a few raised eyebrows if ATi stuff runs the game better than NVs.

This is getting silly , why cant companies stick to standards rather than optimise for particular cards...oh wait, nvidia's products NEED optimising in order for good performance

Ati will just update their drivers, like Nvidia does every other week. Even if it comes down to that which it wont.

This is just another one of those "Meant to be Played" deals for Nvidia, the only problem I see is that all the games that are meant to be played on Nvidia cards perform better on the Radeon anyhow. Maybe they are talkig about the NV40 or something, who knows that card might actually be worth buying, until then my 9800 Pro and I will enjoy Doom 3 whenever it comes out, regardless of what card it is reccomended to be played on.

I remember Carmack saying somewhere that Doom 3 would run better on current ATI hardware than Nvida...
[Edit] That quote was almost a year ago, considering we have had 2 refreshes since then its kind of irelevant[/edit]
its all marketing anyways should run great on either company's cards regardless.

So what, all ATI has to do is release some driver updates and it will be optimised for ATI also.

Doom III is very much hardware driven, and one of the controversies of this year?s E3 was that the game was demonstrated on the latest ATI graphics card rather than a card from NVidia.
?NVidia has been stellar in terms of driver quality and support and doing all of the things right,? says Carmack, who has been an outspoken evangelist for NVidia?s GeForce technology. ?For the past few years, they have been able to consistently outplay ATI on every front. The problem is that they are about one-half step out of synch with the hardware generation because they did Xbox instead of focusing everything on their next board. So they are a little bit behind ATI.?
?I told everyone that I was going to demonstrate Doom III on the best hardware, and there has been no collusion or kickbacks or anything like that going on. Our objective is the technical merit.?
?The new ATI card was clearly superior. I don?t want to ding NVidia for anything because NVidia has done everything they possibly could; but in every test we ran, ATI was faster.?.

Since that time, Carmack has created an FX-optimized codepath that he says is faster and graphically equivalent (with less precision) than the generic rendering paths that Radeons will use. I'll see if I can dig up a quote on that...

I'm getting kind of tired of waiting for these games anyway much less which card it's going to be optomized for, but that's just me.
