Doom 3 benchmarks ok?

I read a lot of PC magazines and I always seem to see benchmark results that seem a lot faster than you would get in real life... My current benchmark for Doom 3 is 72fps at 1600X1200 Ultra Quality with 2X AA and 8X AF... My question is, is this good? Turning down to High quality doesn't seem to improve my results, which is strange? At 4X AA my result drops down to 64fps. Does all of this sound right to you guys? Thanks for any tips or suggestions!
 
Benchmarks are rigged. As long as your running above 60FPS, there's nothing to worry about. Extra FPS are nice, but not worth the trouble of tweaking your settings.

On my setup, 16x12/Ultra Qual with no AA, I get 72fps. With 2xAA, it drops to 59fps.

My card is at 440/1.2 and processor is only slightly overclocked, probably not enough to notice a difference.

Remember, you don't have to set the AF in your control panel for Doom3. If you have it on Ultra Quality, it selects it for the game automatically.
 
My single 6800U with high quality, 16xAF & 0xAA gets around 83 PFS. You should try running under high quality as ultra is only for cards with 512 MB VRAM (and no, 2x256 is not the same as 1x512 in this case).

In gameplay, Doom 3 will cut off anything over 60
Until 1.2 you could change that.

Remember, you don't have to set the AF in your control panel for Doom3
You can't set it in the control panel.
 
I have absolutely no problems running in Ultra. I get around 85 fps in the timedemo with 1280x1024 no AA, 8AF in ultra, and 57 fps with the same settings 4xAA

**edit I didn't realize you have sli yeah I would think you should be scoring a lil faster. Have you tweaked your config file?
 
just in case you don't know... the doom3 timedemo should be run 3 times. take the third reading for consistency with everyone else.

Not in Doom 3, but in the nVidia control panel. If you don't mess with it, it defaults to application controlled, but some people like to adjust it themselves.
 
Ok, the time demo has been run 3 times, with the first result being ignored. In addition, I have both AA and AF set to application controlled and Ultra quality defaults to 8X AF, and AA is set to 2X int he game. I will try and run some tests again and see how it runs. BBS🙂
 
Ok, here are all of my results that I reran just to be sure... What I find interesting is how my Ultra quality results are barely any worse than my high quality results? Very weird stuff here... 2X AA seems to be the sweet spot. Now, mind you, these results are real world. In others words, with virus scan and stuff turned on, etc... I don't play my games in a vacuum like some do because that is just retarded. I bought my PC to use as a PC, not as a home console. Any thoughts or comparisons with these results:

High Quality
8X AF, no AA
83.7 fps

High Quality
8X AF, 2X AA
75.1 fps

High Quality
8X AF, 4X AA
63.3 fps

Ultra Quality
8X AF, no AA
78.8 fps

Ultra Quality
8X AF, 2X AA
73.4 fps

Ultra Quality
8X AF, 4X AA
60.4 fps
 
The only difference between high and ultra quality is that ultra doesn't use texture compression, so the preformace will be about the same aside from a little hitching caused by swapping in ultra mode. Now I'm curious about that 1500mhz ram, that is a typo or what?
 
Maybe the displayed level and things in the timedemo don't use more than 256 MB textures even without texture compression.

If so you might experience sudden slowdowns in other levels if you use ultra quality with 256 MB VRAM.

My system is inferior to yours yet I have better benchies with doom 3, how is that so? oh wait you are running at 1600x1200 right

Check that SLI is indeed active for Doom 3.

2). I know, but you can set it in the Doom3 config file, which I have done already.
3). I have done this already by viewing the load balancing.

Any thoughts?
