DOOM 3 and ATI problems

I was talking to two guys who said that DOOM 3 destroyed their ATI 9800's. Has anybody else had this problem. I don't want to get it if this is so.

No problems on my 9700 pro. Game was boring though. Uninstalled and never will be installed again.

How did Doom3 destroy the 9800's?

I am certain we would have heard of this by now. Don't you think so, too?

Well, i've never heard of that.

But i'd certainly try it if i were you. A lot of upcoming games are going to be based off of the Doom3 engine, so you might as well try it out now and make sure it doesn't have any problems.

Although, again, i've never heard of this happening. Your friends have bad luck.

I am just playing the game with an ATI 9800 Pro. Works fine.

Don't know why everyone says the graphics are good. Most of the game is in the dark. Game sucks. I don't recommend it. Same thing everytime. It's dark and monsters jump out. It's a lighted room but then the lights go out and monsters jump out. You have a crappy little flashlight and you can't use a gun at the same time.

I can see your opinions helping the OP. Anyway, there was an article about how Doom3 could burn a card if it was overclocked because it tends to use parts of the GPU which are usually never used. This causes the card to heat up more than usual in the non oc'd card and probably burn the card if its oc'd. I'm not sure of any of the technical details, but I think even Carmack mentioned something about this. I'm sure Google will throw up more on this.

CD.
