r_useStandardGL 1 is ugly, compared to r_useNV20 1. Not sure what you're supposed to be using with an 8500. I'd rather have it pretty and slow than ugly and fast. This game is supposed to be slow-paced anyway, giving you time to gawk at your surroundings.

Except the fact unless you use the NV20 1 line you have no bump mapping and the r_shadows 0 sets dynamic lighting off, and by your screenshots lighting is off
 
I think that it is not so great of a representation of the game since it is so early.... I cant wait till a real demo comes out... now that is going to be sweet.
