helll yesssss.

Everyone get it ASAP from wherever you can. I got it at a LAN, i wouldnt be surprised if you could find it on Kazaa/groktster/morpheus/etc. and you will definately find it on newsgroups. Whence you get it, you will (i guarantee it) be AMAZED.

How fast does it run for everyone? on my main system (the P4) i get between 30-50 frames roaming around, i sometimes drop to the 20s, RARELY to the 10s. Sound is a bit shakey now (sometimes stutters/sounds like a broken LP), and it takes FOREVER to load, but it is worth it. Lemme get it strait: THis is a beta. It'll only get better from here. the game really is not as demanding as the press makes it seem. I dont believe you need a solid 60 frames to run this game, you'll get away with 30. By the time it rolls out, it will probably be better optimized, so it will run on some "older systems." Plus, its gonna be a while before it comes out, so many will have upgraded by then.

For 30-50 fps, I believe it, if a P4 > 2.2Ghz and a Ti4600 or ATi 9700Pro. The dropping to 20s is believeable as well (even with that hardware).

I think he's just eying the FPS. In reality they are probably WAY lower than that.

Edit:My copy of doom III is a fake :disgust:. There's a good copy on winmx called " Doom IIIAlpha e3 demo.rar "

i got the "demo" from newsgroups. Not sure if its "full". I can only load 3 maps, each map is VERY SHORT but the scenes are excellent. Is this the same "demo" that's floating around now?

It's not really a demo. It's a leaked alpha build of 3 levels that was intended to be used only to show the game off at E3.

Maybe he did "cg_drawfps 1". I did, that's a pretty good way, in game, to gauge Doom3's FPS. Sure, FRAPS is nice, but I'll trust Doom3.exe's measuring of FPS.

be a little more honest will you..

even on a radeon 9700 pro w/ 1 G of PC2700 and a P4 2.53 G all i get was 33 FPS max... ( cg_drawFPS 1 ) and it usually drops to 15 FPS or lower...
this alpha version is really slow...

Radeon 9700 pro, Athlon 2000, 512 C2 memory.
I'm getting about 30fps at 8 by 6. It drops into single digits on occasion. I've gotten it to spike up to 50 or 60fps in rare circumstances (no monsters on screen etc..)

With the way things move about, 25-35fps will be perfect for this game. It simply doesn't need a minimum of 60 to be playable like quake.

Guys this thing is not a beta, not even an alpha. It's simply a tech demo. To give you an idea: You duck into a door in one part to avoid a monster. If in fact you don't duck into the door the monster will blindly walk down the hall past you. It's meant as a demo of the graphics...the person running the demo knows the monster will do this and always ducks into the door as if he's in danger. The whole thing is meant to be run in a specific semi-interactive sequence.

Boris: There is another doom thread around here somewhere. In it you'll find someone provides a link to another thread outside of AT in an attempt to provide folks with help getting a copy. In that outside thread someone mentions what the code is. Mind you if you can decode all I've just said you are doing well :p

I belive the frame rate. Mine is not far off with a 8500 and p4@2.4.
The code for the door is 924 and acesses much more of the map.
If your using a ATI card try running this doom config and post your fps.

Hah, no amount of config editing would allow you to achieve those said framerates. The only card that seems to be able to hit around that area is the 9700. 8500? riiighhhtt

using RamIt's config. the game ran at about 45-30 frames a sec. it would slow down to about 15 when a lot was going on. still quite playable though. the brightnees it so high and the controls are all messed up with that config though

I just use the mouse for most things. Just edit the file to change the keys-buttons.
Brightness? Looks ok over here just a little dark.

with my normal config i get abut 30-20 fps roming around and it drops to 10 or so when theres alot going on. but this is with all the eye candy. this is the best looking game i have ever seen and its runing on 800x600 and its made me come close to shiting my pants more then once. the shadow effect are amazing, i was in a corner reloading and there was a zombie about 20 feet down the hall. i started reloading thinking i had all the time in the world. suddenly i see a long dark shadow coming around from my side. i turn to see a zombie swipe at my head. this was one of the coolest video games experences of my life. and this is an alpha. if you got a good comp that can run this game at even 20 fps or so i say its more then worth the download.

after reading everyones comments, i will say that the frames were actually less. Before i was eyeing it, but then i ran the FPS command in the console and i get 30s when roaming, upper 20s when someone else is on screen, and mid 10s to mid 20s during a fight. (I O/Ced my vid card to geforce3 ti500 levels)

i meant alpha throughout the whole post, sorry. And its 300ish megs DL, 1 gig + unzipped.

i dunno what's up with DimZiE's comp, he should be getting higher frames. the guy who gave it to me got in the 40s and he has the same system (except with an athlon XP 2400+)

and ramit, where'd you get those commands from? i've tried a few and htey do help, thanx.
