Doom 3: 1.3 patch/performance

Someone explain this to me....

First, let me list my computer:

AMD64 3000+ (Winchester - not OC)
Biostar 6100-939 mATX mb
EVGA 7800GT CO
1 gig Corsair VS
160 Seagate IDE HD
onboard sound

I've been pulling my hair out of my head trying to figure out why I'm getting only 62 fps in Doom 3. Running at 1024x768, high quality, and vsync is off in the drivers and the game. Everything else is default.

I uninstalled Doom 3 then reinstalled it...ran the timedemo (same settings as above)...89 fps!
Hmm... can't complain.

I install the 1.3 patch for Doom and BAM!.... back down to 62 fps. (again, same settings as above)

I thought this was rather odd, so i even tried it with a whole different hard drive I had laying around (30gig Western Digital 5400 rpm). Again, 89fps then after the 1.3 patch, 62 fps.

Anyone else have this problem? Or does anyone know a work around to fix the performance loss of 1.3?

This is demo1 I presume? I had exactly the same situation on my 6800U and I suspect it's to do with nVidia's benchmark detection failing after 1.3 is applied. My other custom benchmarks didn't change after I applied 1.3.

thats very naughty if it's true...

If you check the patch notes for 1.3 it mentions they did some engine changes for the expansion. I am guessing that is the problem. ATI cards see the same kind of performance drop.

Although, it is interesting that custom timedemos don't see the same drop.
