Doom (2016) Discussion

It's locked at 60 in game for me, my monitor's refresh rate is set to 144Hz. Maybe gsync is messing with it somehow. I'll try turning it off.

I had the same 60fps lock. The game set my monitor refresh to 60, so I had to go back to NVidia control panel and set it back to 144, now FPS is limited to 144 and gsync appears to be working.
I am liking the game so far. Performance is ridiculous on a single 980ti @ 1450. I don't think its dropped below 80 even once and it usually floats around 100. Everything is 100% maxed out with 8x tssaa or whatever the hell they call it. SLI doesn't work at all, but I don't care for this game so far.
GPU hasn't broken 45c on the temp. I did have a sudden crash to desktop with no warning. I was just back at my desktop lol. Nice game so far.

After watching a couple of streams it is the original Doom. And unlike Doom 3 you can see! It also looks like weapons don't suck, unlike Doom 3.

I may have to pick this up.

BAH! I just had dips into the 60's during a heavy action scene. Throwing GPU's in the trash...brb. JK its OK. This game is pretty damn sick actually.

Here is an action sequence I did. FPS is lower due to recording. Plenty of chainsaw action and ripping demons apart with bare hands due to magical orb acquisition!

Yeah, I fixed mine as well after disabling gsync (I can try turning it back on now I suppose). No SLI support.....What are we peasants? Bah! The game does run wonderfully smooth though, even when I was locked at 60. Fun as shit, I can't believe some don't like it.

Funny watching someone else play....When the shield guy first appeared I keep staring at that little blue icon in the lower right corner of your screen thinking "Dang it moonbogg...middle mouse button click!" Then after avoiding him initially, you come back around, same....at that point I'm thinking "does he know he has grenades?" lol

As an actual matter of fact, I had no effing clue 😀
I'm still trying to find the M98B.

Also, I have had about 3 CTD with no error. Anyone else getting that? No other games crash. I would try to mess with all sorts of stuff to fix it, but it might be the game or driver. Don't want to go insane if I can't even fix it.

I have not yet had a crash. No other games crashing, I'd write that up to release day version wonkiness.

No CTD here, but I don't play for long periods of time may be an hour at a time, hour and a half tops before I distract myself with something else.

Enjoying the PISS out of this game. This is badass, old school, kickass first person mayhem. I am on "hurt me plenty" and its almost a little to easy. If the game doesn't get tougher, I will have to up the ante and go ultra violence.

"Samuel Hayden, a survivor and head of the mars facility has offered you his help if you need it. You don't. You just need ammo and a way to stop the meltdown before it tears the base apart"

LOL nice

Shit, I've only used one grenade since I started playing the game! 😱

I completely forgot about them D:

I just got the Plasma rifle though, and I'm surprised at how weak it is compared to the assault rifle and the shotgun 🙁

Look at this disgusting screenshot. OMG

Just played for 3 hours straight, and I'm really glad I bought this game. I'm having such fun with it 😎

Highly recommend it to anyone that likes skill based shooters. 😎

And I applaud ID for the excellent work they've done with IDTech 6. The amount of dynamic lights in this game is awesome, and the reflections are top notch for the high performance.

Also megatexture technology has come a long way since Rage, as the textures in Doom seem very detailed to me and texture pop in has been eradicated more or less. The only texture pop in I see, is when you load into the game for the first time, and that only lasts about two seconds. From that point on it's completely unnoticeable, at least on my machine.

It would be cool if they made a sequel to Rage with this updated engine, as the engine has fixed so many problems that affected the original years ago and tainted it's release.

That said, GameGPU has put up their Doom technical report, and it matches what PCgameshardware.de's numbers more or less. Surprisingly, CPU optimization isn't bad at all considering it's using OpenGL. Regardless, I expect Vulkan to fix any CPU optimization problems the game might have, and will also likely help AMD A LOT when ID releases the update.

This game looks so good on 4K but I can only hit 30-40fps on my 970 with lowered settings. Sucks.

On Ultra I hover around 20. Debating getting a lower res monitor... I don't see 4K being an option for a while. I didn't think there was a game I cared to play at high settings but this game looks so good I want to up the res.

Does the game have ANY story? Do the monsters ALWAYS keep re-spawning or do you eventually kill all the demons on "one level" and the progress to the next? How does the game advance itself?

Ok, those graphics are giving me a hard on.

But Wow, so performance on AMD sucks now?

Terrible surprise, I had it pinned as running great on AMD during the open Beta.

You play through multiple arena-like-areas in the map. Once you get to a arena, it goes into lock down mode where you have to kill off all the demons to advance. Since the game is based off the future that events like these had happened before, they enable security features of the base to shut down. Or sometimes a demon triggers an opening during stages like a Hell Knight crashing through a wall. There also these things called gore bags that act as conduits to hell and when destroyed spawn in multiple enemies in response.

There is some story to it, but most of it is written in the Doom "Wiki" tablets that you pick up during your travel. My 770 GTX and I5 at 3.1 GHz is playing it perfectly fine at 1920 x 1080 mid-high settings with AA.

It is getting good reviews all over.. then why am I luke warm over it?
It is like it is getting repetitive very fast. I miss some story, cinematics, immersion.
I like the double jump and ability to jump higher, it is gonna give multiplayer a nice touch.
Dont know what it reminds me of more, doom or quake.
I miss the old days when level design was level design. If an object was there and you had the ability to climb/jump it, you could.
Todays level design is sandboxed, like, yes you should be able to go there, but you are not supposed to so here have an invisible wall. I remember Quake2 .. still years upon years after initial inception, curious minds still came up with ways to navigate a map, gain a little edge in MP.
It is good, runs on mostly highest settings on my gtx780 at 1080p. A few hiccups, nothing that will ruin my SP experience.

I looks like a painting...?

It looks like GOD puked his glory on a magical canvas. I'm sure that's what you were trying to say.

One thing I noticed is the game only seems to have stereo sound. I'm not getting 5.1 or any real positional cues. Not a huge deal I guess but I expected 5.1.

Got mine today.

Box is huge

Revenant lit up next to my PC..colors match! I have to admit, of all the game related statues, this one looks awesome next to any gaming PC, especially the way the fan rotates with the light under it (just needs a fog machine for ultimate look).

Also, I was browsing old big box PC games on eBay (i collect them) and came across H! Zone, it's an expansion pack which says the following:
Once you've completed all 250 levels and conquered the new dozen episodes, you can use an import feature that converts Doom, Doom II and Heretic levels into Hexen. Doing this will update the aforementioned games with the new and improved 3D texturing found on this CD. H!ZONE for Hexen and Heretic also features enhanced coding that makes gameplay a bit smoother for those without a high-end computer.

Wow, 250 levels and can import Doom, etc game levels into Hexen while updating 3D texturing. It's just a shame devs can't or won't do this sort of thing these days despite the number of games that use the same engine.

I'm really enjoying this game. Just running around trying to find the secrets after you have finished off all the enemies in the level is pretty fun. Still never get them all though.
