Donuts in a BMW

So it snowed here in the UK recently and my BM would go anywhere. So bad was it that it would even slide sideways in to the curb at 2mph.

Anyway I got it on a snow covered carpark and put full lock on and floored it and it did start to twist round the front wheels. In the end though it mostly pushed the front wheels still at full lock in a straight direction.

So question is I know the tires don't offer much grip and I know with a 3.0 under the hood it has the power so how do I get them donuts. Its an auto if that makes a diff.

Find a large area, begin in drive with steering at full lock, continue with car idling along in drive like this so you're going in a circle, then floor it and keep your foot buried. Donut +1
 
Read thread title and pictured my wife eating a donut in mine, then thought "she would probably do that".

I almost just got angry at my wife because of you 😉
 
arrrghh...It's sentence structure/spelling like the OP's that keeps people from giving an effective reply.

Anyways, sounds like since your traction was crap to begin with, the front tires didn't have enough grip to plant the front end so the back of your car could rotate around it. Try driving in straight and building a little speed before cranking the wheel and hitting the accelerator, that should help you. The car will still go in a straight line if the front tires do not have sufficient traction.

what i've always heard is that holding full lock starves the pump of PS fluid which can damage it. once i hit full lock i back off a little.

not that i've done donuts.
 
Depends on which DSC you got, pressing it once only turn off traction control, hold it down a few seconds turns off stability control as well. You'll need to hold it down for a few seconds before attempting donuts. Also, use the steptronic.

The problem is finding them in the UK when the snow hits.

In a normal winter there isn't enough snow for people to worry about winter tires ~2,000 sold by a UK company, this year the same company sold 50,000...

Sounds like one of these problems:

1) Summer (not all-season) tires. Solution is to replace with snow or new all-season tires.

2) Worn all-season tires. Solution is to replace with snow or new all-season tires.

3) Road is icy. Solution is to get tire chains/cables. Alternate solution is to stay home.
 
1. Hold the DSC button for 3 seconds to turn off traction control and stability.
2. Push transmission level to Sport - Steptronic mode
3. Force transmission to go 1st gear
4. Start slow without breaking traction in a wide circle at around 10mph
5. Hit the gas while turning wheel to lock
6. Once donut is initiated, ease up on the wheel and gas and have fun
