I agree. i generally default to "dough," though, as that makes more sense.

Used to see Dognuts quite a bit a LONG time ago. A couple friends and I still joke about it and pronounce doughnuts as "dog" "nuts" just for giggles still. Many people don't remember that was a correct spelling for a time or are too young to know.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, nuts. I don't get DOUGHnuts often, but when I do a chocolate covered cake with peanuts is usually one of them.
