I am finishing up some work on a project and the data didn't turn out as hoped (the protein of interest was not present) despite a mighty effort. More work could be done (always something to be tried in science) but that would take another week and mean erasing my planned vacation and the holiday. Its not even my real project. A collaborator who is trying to get funded on a second try. Of course I feel guilty but I held firm and refused to give in to the unspoken pressure. I have given too much over the years and sometimes you have to burn some of that goodwill. He'll get over it. This stuff always happens to me before I go away. Ridiculous.
