people state the obvious. It drives me nuts. Someone will say something like "If i wanted to break my computer how could I do it"

Some person pops right in and says, " take the case apart and hit it with a hammer"

This is a stupid example but you get the idea. It especially annoys me on this board because people get obsessed with titles and it is an easy way for them to nef.

A lot of it may depend on if the question is stupid to begin with. What's wrong with giving a stupid answer to a stupid question? As far as obsession with titles, they are the vehicles used to create interest in the information that resides within. If the title is worded in a way that it could be interpreted in different ways, it will receive different responses.

no you misunderstood what i meant with the word title. I meant jmember, member, senior member, etc...

My example was stupid and it wasn't to say that the questions are always stupid.

I have been here probably way before you under my old alias so longer than 95% on this board. A title means nothing to me in life. I AM SLIPPERYSLOPE I was just asking a question. I am sure I am not the only one that gets annoyed by someone(a coworker, friend,spouse) that always states the obvious.

My intent was not to get into a fight or anything. Just wondered what people thought.

yeah i understand it is offtopic kami. I too was here with UBB. July of 1998 is when I started at anandtech so I am not completely sure when I joined the forums or when they originally start. I just remember the days when everyone posted everything in the general forum.

I have noticed in the real world and the virtual world that some people find it necessary to state the obvious due to the fact that what may be obvious to some, is not necessarily obvious to others. There are some 'STUPID' answers, yes, but Preyhunter has a point. Why not answer a stupid question with a stupid answer? It is all perception. If we perceive the question as stupid, sometimes we cannot fight the urge to express ourselves with a stupid answer. True, we may look foolish to some, but others my find it funny. It is a chance that we all take when we get out of bed each morning. We may end the day looking stupid, or we may have totally changed our lives with the decisions we made that day. With your statement, Slipperyslope, you may have changed the way people reply to messages on this and any other forum. Some may STOP making obvious statements/replies, and others may START making them just to annoy you. We will just have to wait and see what effect you have had on all our lives.
