...and/or budget and start to have to reuse footage in dream sequences or time travel episodes, or need to resurrect past villains in inane scripts (Wrath Of Khan was an exception to this, obviously)? Or even worse when they have to start cutting corners on props, locations and clothing. I mean, it would be such a tragegy if Mythbusters ran out of money and had to cut Kari Byron's clothing budget. :p Still, back when writing was a well-honed, imaginative craft like in the original Star Trek and Outer Limits, it did not matter if Dodge City looked two-dimensional because what was explored was the human condition and its archetypes. Nowadays, most shows fall flat even with all the bling-bling and visual razzmatazz. All the thingamajigs in the world don't amount to a hill of beans when the landscape of your mind is smothered by tons of visual detritus and overused writing gimmicks.

The occassional "memories"(once a season or less) show is ok, especially for a long running series. What I hate are shows that the main characters always have a friend, family member, or Ex-Lover/Spouse that they have to help. That sh1t gets old fast and all those people should gang up and kill the Main character as that character freaking curses everyone around them.

Anyone who worries about whether "the landscape of your mind is smothered by tons of visual detritus and overused writing gimmicks" and cites Mythbusters as an example needs to watch MUCH less TV. :)

Unfortunetly by the time you reach ATOT, you've probably seen every TV show gimmick multiple times already. When you're young they are ok, cause you've never seen them before, but after a few decades of the same sh1t it gets tiring.

Actually, what really bothers me is when moderators think that their message boards are getting boring, so they start reusing old, banned characters with....

Nothing replaces good writing. You can have all the flashy visuals in the world but it doesn't do any good if the writing is bad.
Good writing even overcomes bad acting for the most part.

I really wish they hadn't got rid of Rose, she was hot. There was a great bit in the original reviews of the new series - "Dr Who is intended for young people but can be enjoyed by all ages. Just like Billie Piper"...

I'm just starting season 2 on DVD. I'm only 2 or 3 episodes in and I'm about ready to stop watching it.

How many damn times do I need to re-watch the same freaking scenes once they get in "the hatch". Seriously...the first two episodes of season 2 were half filled by replaying the same content over and over again.

Bah!

If it's any consolation, that doesn't happen again one you get past the third ep.

You don't like it? I got a little bored in the middle of season 1 but I thought S02E01 (and the leadup to it) was some of the best TV I've ever seen. The very first scene where it's just the scottish guy going through his routine, that 60s song plays and the camera sweeps up throught the hatch - genius.
