Don't you hate it when tv shows do this?

A daughter/son goes to college in a television show after growing up on TV, only to go to a school close enough so that they are still involved in the storyline. For example:

Roy from Gilmore Girls - She chose Yale, in her home state so she can be close and in the script.
Meadows from The Sopranos - Goes to Columbia, which is only a drive from NY to NJ.
Boy meets World - The whole fvcking cast members went to the same college and somehow Feeney showed up as a professor. WTF?!?!?!?! Also, Topanga turned down Yale to go to Generic U. with Fred Savage.

Anymore you guys can think of?

I just hate TV. I only watch TechTV and the History channel, which are conveniently enough right next to each other.

Saved by the Bell.

Didn't they have Saved by the Bell "College Years" or something like that. I think even the principal went too.

Not that I ever watched the show. ;)

That show on Disney that my kids like called Sister Sister has the twins going to college nearby I believe. So did Will Smith's character in the Fresh Prince...

Will Smith went to the same college as Carlton. Wasn't Carlton suppose to be some preppy ivy league character?

Didn't Debbie go to every college in the US and sometimes overseas too?

They do it because otherwise there would be no story.

They didn't do it with Chuck in Happy Day's.

Mr. Belding stayed back. He was on Saved by the Bell "The New Class" which bombed. They brought Screech back as his assistant, but that didn't help.

The College Years didn't have Jessi (the "smart" feminist bitch) or that chick Screech was in love with...can't remember her name. And instead of Belding they had Mike Golic.

...but I didn't watch either. ;)

But Gilmore Girls without Rory would be Gilmore Girl.

No, they could show her at an out of state college and talk to her money in double screen, kind of like in the show 24.

It just mirrors reality. Something like 2/3rds of all people who go to college, choose one right near where they grew up. It wouldn't be realistic to have everyone move to the other side of the country just to attend college. What was Rory to do? Turn down Yale to go to South Dakota School of Mines? What is the point of making shows that do stupid things like that?

The same principle can be applied to Lucy and Ricky and Fred and Ethel. Everywhere one couple went the other went even so far as to move to some house I think in Connecticut together. I could be mistaken on that because it has been years since I've watched an episode. The point is it was kind of goofy.

I figured someone would complain about that. My point wasn't that the South Dakota School of Mines is a bad school (I just randomly picked a school in the middle of nowhere). No, my point was that Rory would have absolutely no reason to go so far away from home when there are schools nearby which accepted her.

I'm more peeved about the Simpson's kids not ever growing up. I can remember the writers discussing when Maggie would say her first words and that's about the last I heard of it. That was about 10 years ago now.
