Don't you guys just HATE it when people don't say thank you when you do something for them?

On my way to my seat today, in first period, this girl dropped a piece of paper. Being the nice sonofabitch that i am, i decided to:

a) interrupt the walk to my seat
b) force myself to bend over to pick her paper
c) hand it to her with a smile

What do i get in return?! NOTHING. :disgust: I mean come on, what happened to manners?! She just gave me this long, empty stare. For all I cared, i could have left my shoeprint on her paper. What makes this worst that it was at the start of school, and i'm usually pretty damned grumpy too. Btw, gimme that damned cookie...

I'm not in the habit of "forcing" myself to do stuff, if I do something nice it's because *I* want to.

Have your cookie erikiksaz, some girls just DON'T appreciate things like these but most girls do.

Yes and its p*sses me off too. I always make a point about saying thankyou to people when they do something for me.

well...when u do something for someone and they do not say thank you... u should just say "YOUR WELCOME!" and make sure everyone within 30 ft can hear it 😀

Haha, i was thinking about that too. But i'm overly tired in the morning. I usually walk to my seat, and proceed to put my head on top of my backpack, catchin some ZzzzZzz's.

Aaarrrgggghhhhh!!!

Don't even start me on this one. What ever happened to common courtesy??? If I open the door, or hold it open, for somebody and they just walk through without saying "thank you" I make sure to say "you're welcome" loud enough for them and everybody else in earshot to hear.

Aaarrrgggghhhhh!!!

OK, I feel better now, thank you.

I'm the guy who didn't say "thank you" when you held the door open for me, so now I'm saying "Thanks". Happy? Satisfied? Feel better?

was she good looking? i'm guessing so, because they can get away with it. take pleasure in knowing that their stock only goes down as time goes on 🙂

Certainly not. If I do something for someone, I don't expect a thank you at all. Why would I? Would you save the President's life with the only hope of getting a reward? I know that's an extreme case, but it's basically the same principle.

nik (does lots of things out of principle)

<Or just let it slide. That would not have made the event an ATOT-w>
yup! or else we'll have one less topic to talk about!

<was she good looking? i'm guessing so, because they can get away>
lol
very well said! so unfortunate that good looking women can get away with anything...sheesh!

If she gave you a blank stare maybe she was just surprised and is not used to such things and didn't know what to say? Maybe she's shy? You come to your conclusions a little too quickly...but of course there's a chance that she really is just a biatch.

This is making a bad generalization, but I am betting she is either extremely hot or quite ugly. Normal looking girls are usually better and nicer people from my experience. The hottest ones won't give you the time of day, and the uglier ones are usually shy.

I don't like saying thank you. It cheapens the moment. I just give the full nod with a smile. but I say thanks if I'm in a hurry.

I don't do stuff for people anymore unless I'm in a good mood or it is a favor. I only do it for the thanks or some sort of acknowledgement but people just don't say thanks anymore.

If you were doing it just to get something in return, then do you think you deserve the thank you?

Do it because it's a nice thing to do...if she doesn't say thank you, it was still a nice thing

yes, but nobody likes doing things for rude people... i can see where he's coming from... it's not so much expecting something in return as it is "wtf is wrong with you that you have no grasp of how to behave".

and i do things to help others... not for thanks or anything, but just in case i ever need to use them for something 😀

I never expect it from people, I dont find it necessary, if I feel I have done something rewarding then that is good enough for me. In other words, yea, I hate sometimes 🙂

i dont mind if they dont use the words thank you or something..as long as they show appreciation...

Not too long ago i picked up one of my bestfriends g/f at the airport (he was at work), which is about 30 minute trip each way, plus waiting for her...I'm nice enough to park the car and pick her up from her gate (this summer before 9/11 security)...then carry her bags to the car...when we are leaving there was a charge of $2 for parking, she didnt even motion or try to pay, I sat there for a second and then just started digging around to find my wallet...i was so mad...argh...still gets me how clueless some people are

While common courtesy seems to be disappearing I think you did the right thing but for the wrong reason. You expected to receive a thank you. The reward is the good feeling you ought to have at doing a bit of charity. The response really shouldn't matter, should it?

Also, that girl may at some future moment if she hasn't already, thought about your kind act, reflected about it (is this possible is modern society?) and will ask you out in the coming week.

I think those of you complaining about his motives are assuming a lot. He didn't say he picked the paper up just to get a thank you. He did it because he's a "nice sonofabitch", not so he could get a thank you. The lack of a thank you after the fact is just an irritant.
