Don't you find it hilarious when this happens?

Ok, I was in futureshop (it is a canadian store) the other day and I was in the computer section looking at some parts for my computer (I haven't built my new one yet) so I look up and there are four computer salesmen walking towards me, I was cornered. So I continued looking and the first salesman arrives. I tell him that I am building a computer, and he says what type of processor are you going to get. I tell him that I want to get an amd athlon palomino processor for desktop. He says oh we sell those here, and he just went off telling me all this great stuff about one of them. He said that the 64 mb vid card was top of the line and it was a geforce2 mx. It was hilarious. I probably knew more about computers than he did.

I probably knew more about computers than he did.

Considering that he was probably making minimum wage + commission, that wouldn't be an unlikely event. He's paid to sell, not to know anything.

Yeah, but when you are selling something, wouldn't you want to know every detail about the product? I wouldn't go out there selling bridges if I didn't know squat about em...

By the by, I have a bridge in New York if you're interested.

Yeah and then the next day, I went to some other computer store, and the guy told me that they didn't sell msi motherboards because of compatability issues (is there compatibility issues with the msi k7 master) he told me that the x-gamer sound card was the best sound card for computers with amd processors and I said I thought the hercules game theatre xp was the best, he told me that it was decent but the x-gamer was better. I guess that everyone has different opinions

Viper GTS hit the nail RIGHT on the head there. I have a buddy that works for gateway as a salesman. He knows the buzzwords, thats IT. His commission check is usually around $1000 each month. But if you think about it, he's the perfect salesman. He knows exactly what the customer knows, maybe just a little more. The customer has heard "pentium" before and they know bigger is always better, so when he suggests a "pentium 4" they hear "fast computer". He keeps telling me I should work there, but I'm just not slimy enough for it. I could probably do tech support, but fixing problems he helped create by selling an idiot a PC wouldn't be my idea of fun.

I've actually noticed that the majority of people at the Future Active store tend to know what they are talking about (at least here in Taxachusetts). Better than Radio Snack, WorstBuy, CircuitSh!tty, or CompUSSR.

I was once in a CompUSA and saw a customer asking a salesperson why an ATI all-in-wonder video card cost twice as much as a TNT2 M64, "they all have 32mb of memory, so they must be the same, right?" And the salesperson told him "it's just different brand names."
