Any ROUGH idea of how many hours they spent raising you and fixing sh!t you jacked up?

Seriously, I understand when it come to extended family and friends of family....but it's your parents!

Yup. Dell + Firefox + antivirus + spybot s&d == happy Amigaman who doesn't have to help his in-laws anymore!

seriously, get a second drive for each computer. drives are cheap.
Fix them up again after the next hosing, and ghost to spare drive. show someone in household how to unhook one drive and hook up the other.
Next time they call, tell them to hook up other drive.
"What about the data?"

"Back up your sh!t if it is important!!"

They are your parents. That's all that needs to be said. It's time for you to step up and help them like they took care of your ass for 18 years.

Hahahahaha! My parents talking to Dell Bangalore? Wow, can you say disowned?

He's actually taking care of Windows, not his parents. Time to disown Windows.

Clone your family PC and keep an image, then refuse to add new stuff and force them to back up personal data.

When they complain just reload the HD from clone.

This time the computer is polluted up the ass with spyware I can't remove. I did make the mistake of letting them run as admin, it was convenient for me when I had to use it, but ontop making them just users, I'm thinking about taking away one computer so they can only jack up one. What else should I do? It already has firewall, AV, anti spyware, blah blah and it still gets screwed up.

Learn how to administer an OS properly.

You don't hear of corporate desktops getting trashed every few days unless the place is run by the same guys that can't keep their family's PC's clean.

It's a nightmare! I read an article somewhere about it. Everybody and their mother always calls me for this. I'm thinking of moving soon...

Certainly Firefox or Opera set up as your default browser will stop half the problems.
