Ok, so i have two 120GB SATA HD set up as RAID 0, and one ATA 80BGB HD. I ran my OS on the 80GB and used the two 120GB for storage. The otherday i had to format my OS cause my cousin sent me a bunch of spyware and a couple of virus (plus i needed to clean up my OS so that i figure i start over) When trying to reload the OS onto the 80GB HD with the SATA drives connected the boot CD won't load the OS, it will start inspecting the configurations and then go to a black screen. Now i at one point got to the screen to load the third party raid controller and installed it, windows boot disk started loading windows then frezzes at that point. When trying to insall the OS without the SATA connected it installs onto the 80GB HD. when i try to connect the SATA while the the OS is running off the 80GB windows freezes, and when i restart it wont start up. SO the problem is i can't get the two drives to work with windows. I have everything on the SATA drives and would like to know if anyone know of this problem and how i would install the drives and keep the information on them. There are nearly 8,000 songs, 100s of movies, and 10,000s of pics (so irraplaceable) unless i went back to IRAQ. If anyone could i help me either install these drives and keep the info on them or Retrieve the info off he drives i would SO appricate it, Thanks.

Have you gone to the bios screen to see the: one, boot order of the drives; two, how the sata and ata drives are set up to work in the bios.

R-Studio recovery if you can't get it to work within new installation.

WHY are you using RAID 0 if your data is so important?
You have twice as much chance of losing EVERYTHING on both disks - if one hdd dies, the data is useless. Movies, music and pics aren't gonna load that much faster from a RAID partition anyway.

Bah,
Welcome to the forums - sorry about the rant

Thanks, Yeah well i have checked the bios, even cleared the CMOS, Then looked for any of the settings that control the raid and made sure it was on. Then checked the raid controller. I notices that instead of saying strip 0 and 1 just says stipe 0 on both drives. Any More ideas????

I know this was pretty stupid of me now, after all this time. When i got my computer i didn't know much about raid, it was when they just started putting them on the MB, so i was curious how it worked. I later relised it was a bad move but made no attempt to change it cause i didnt think two Seagate HD would go out on my anytime soon. I think one of the drive my have now died though (my motherboard now tells me the HD has a problem and now when i turn the computer on it takes me to the raid controller and tells me the array is broken and only shows 1 HD. Thannk god i got this free laptop and my IPOD or my life would be in ruins right now.

You need to install the SATA controller drivers in Windows BEFORE connecting the SATA drives. Then shut down, connect the SATA drives and boot it up.

Hope this helps...

Is this a new install - if so, try another install - - - -

Put XP cd in drive, boot from it.
Choose the respective options - NOW - Watch out for a very quick piece of text saying "to install RAID/SCSI drivers, press F6". Press F6. Put floppy disk [with the SATA drivers on it] into floppy drive.
then, just go through the various options/settings to what ever suits you - [if you get it wrong, it can always be started again]

All the above is 'in theory'

Good luck and let us know how it goes

Yeah i have multiple XP disk and have make sure to press F6 when the OS is booting from CD. Ok so now heres some info to add to the drama i am not having. When my computer starts it takes me straight to the raid config. IT says broken raid 0. When looking at the status window it tells me that each of the drives STATUS is broken, it gives me the option to destroy the stripping array for both drives or toe power off and check the failed drive. I dont think that both of the drives have failed (that would suck) so im wondering what i could be. well i think im going to make an attempt to destroy the stripping array and see where that takes me, I then will try the recovery software recommened earlier. I hope this works, any ideas or precautions please let me know thanks

DONT write anything to the drive if you are looking to recover data.
Don't do anything to the drive if you are looking to recover data!!!

Just try clone the drive, then do what you are gonna do - so at least you can try both ways

Ok so Hurray, i have succsessfully reattached both of the SATA HD to the board with my IDE HD but no 0 array, So here goes the second part. I would like to recover the info from the drives how would i do that considering that if i create an array or make it able to work in windows i have to formate it. Any good ideas here, I heard of programs that will let me recreate the raid 0 from the broken arrays, does anyone know of such a program and if so could u post if or send it or the link. Thanks a LOT guys.
