Initially tried installing with the monitor hooked up via HDMI. Got a BSOD. Changed the monitor to DVI and no more BSOD.

The only issue I had installing Windows was with 4GB and Vista 64bit. It just wouldn't finish... Removed 2GB and it finished fine. Put it back in after the install and it's still working fine at my folks. No errors on Memtest and passed all stability tests btw.

And there's Windows Millenium that would install fine but die every time during first bootup (10+ installs! ). An empty desktop with no icons followed by a BSOD a minute later every time. Went back to 98SE. "Good" old times

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) on both a Dell Dimension E521 (Athlon X2 3800+) connected via HDMI to a Pioneer KURO and a home-built HTPC (Gigabyte AMD 780G board with Athlon X2 4600+) outputting to a Samsung LN40B630. Neither installation suffered any issues, at least not any obviously related to the display. The latter system has had odd issues with audio periodically when playing DVDs, which require me to reinstal the drivers. Note that in the latter system I'm using analogue audio out to the telly, not HDMI audio.

It could be your ATI TV Wonder or something else in your unique configuration, such as other PCI cards or something else completely. Half of my computers were set up over HDMI on a TV. And they are all running Windows 7.

I bet its the TV wonder as well. Giga boards are super flaky when it comes to windows installs. My P55 giga would error out if a external hd was plugged in to usb with the stock bios.

If you're gonna make an assumption like that, at least preface it with "in my case, with my setup". I think we've covered that we can install windows with an HDMI connection, as I just did not too long ago.

Well I wasn't the first (http://social.technet.microsoft.com...l/thread/87d6864e-4c32-431c-870a-633cd7b44881) so I thought it was just a lesser known bug.

Oh, and it was 64 bit Windows 7. Perhaps those of you saying it worked were installing 32 bit?

Nope, 64-bit for me installed via HDMI with a 4550. I actually installed it twice, because I goofed things up the first time.

Well, with More than 90 Million Copies Sold its not a surprise that a few people ran into some issues with HDMI. That doesn't mean it's an intrinsic flaw with the OS.

My HTPC has another issue where the computer won't post if HDMI is plugged in. It's annoying having to unplug the cable everytime I turn it on or reboot. Now I just leave it on.

I got BSODs installing Win 7, but was using DVI->VGA. Never figured out why, but suspect it was the SATA3 Controller or some such newer feature on my Mobo.

The only problem I might have when installing with two displays is Windows configuring my secondary as the primary. An easy fix.

Why sure it does....don't you know that when two people with not-so-typical hardware configurations have a problem, it's an endemic flaw and must be whined about everywhere, blaming Microsoft for a fatally flawed product?
