Don't try driving -beyond- your skill limit.. :P

(just to mention... lancer has less hp than either cars, and more weight [subs/assorted junk].. heh)
Myself, my brother and the Chief Master were out for a drive (me- 03 lancer, bro - 92 protoge, chief - 03 protoge). Of course my bro has the nice rims/wide lower profile tires, chief has 15" wheels (not nice rims but at least they're 15")... my lancer has little donut wheels. probably 13-14", on all-season crapola tires.

Somehow, I could still manage to keep myself on the road, and keep myself far far ahead of them. So we found one stretch, in the middle of nowhere... nice windy roads, hills, perfect smooth pavement (I don't like wimming on sh1tty roads, for obvious reasons). So chief in his protogay goes first, I let my bro follow and I keep my distance from both of them, maybe ~15 carlengths. I see chief hit the brakes, then bro hit the brakes... I just adjust my speed accordingly without ever touching them brakes.

So we get to the end of that stretch which was pretty cool, about 10 mins of driving at 100-130km/h - not excessive but not slow. So I tell them let's go back the way we came on this road (gas station around there, bro need gas) - but let me lead. So I go... now somehow, them with 15+ wheels and cars with stiffer suspension than mine, they manage to be so far back I can't even see them anymore? I stop and wait for them to catch up, then we go get gas. heh

So Im at a 1/4 but i may as well fill up, we all get gas. then we head back and theres one road bro suggests cause its supposedly really nice. so we go, and theres tons of potholes and really crappy roads .. and finally it evens out a bit. then tehre's this HUGE curve.. like way over 90 degree, and they obviously have all the warning signs for a sharp curve. I slow down, I see chief (in front). so, at this point im behind the 2 of them, i'm slowing down and im going maybe 50kmh, which is pretty much too fast for a curve like that in my car. chief goes through the curve, albeit dangerously, on the wrong side of the road (there were no cars, could see easily, for as far as the eye could see). Then I see my bro going into the curve, and I think... hmmm, he's going pretty fast .. but he has a tighter suspension and the mags and everything, he should be able to hook himself around there better than chief right.. NOPE! I see his car sort of hydro-plane (dirty road I guess), and sort of skid sideways/going straight over the curb into the field.. instant laughter ensues
. of course I nearly follow him cause i'm busy laughing at him - but obviously just turn and go where im supposed to before i make the same stupid mistake.

he landed just off the road, in some dirt, parallel to the road. lmfao! being the genius he is, he revved higher while trying to get out, obviously this just made his tires spin while in dirt. i told him to go really really slow on the clutch and dont give it much gas so he'll just roll, sort of like an automatic. me and chief ended up pushing him and he finally got out. his left rear wheel was covered with mud. heh

so i must conclude that i am a more skilled, and safer driver than those wimming bitches. i KNEW something was gonna happen, I just knew it. hence why I was keeping behind the other two most of the time. the only *sort* of dangerous thing I did was when i wimmed back on the first road way up ahead of them. I was going fast, I admit that. The roads were empty, but you never know, so in that light it was dangerous/stupid and I probably won't do that again (not with the lancer, at least ). just the fact that they were TRYING to keep up/catch up, and were out of sight.. with BETTER handling/just as fast cars? sad, just sad. the fact that someone ended up completely off the road also confirmed my belief that I suck LESS.

sorry of its long and NO CLIFFNOTES you lazy mofos. and YES I will have pics, but I wanted to post this now, gotta wait for chief to develop pics. they are of the 02 (red) protoge after the incident, and pics of the marks he left after landing in the dirt, I believe. hopefully the pics turned out.

heh heh heh

Cliff notes:

Go out driving, zCypher in 03 Lancer, bro in 92 Protege, Chief in 03 Protoge
Drive around a bit
Going round a >90 degree corner, bro goes off the road, Chief almost loses control. zCypher doesn't
All laugh
Has to push car out

Moral. Know your limits

You bastard! cliffnotes whore 😛
I could have very well followed my bro into the field.. if only I were a tad slower/dumber. I wouldn't say I didn't lose control and chief did, we were pretty even on that front. had there been someone or something in the way, or a car... either one of us woudl have been fukked, so in that respect we're all morons. I made the turn without skidding out of control technically or going off the road, but I could not have swerved out of the way if something was in the way.

the moral o the story IS to know your limits though. you can just tell when someone has control of their car or doesn't... I've went wimming so many times w/another one of my friends and we've NEVER ever ever came close to anything like that happening, and it just feels safer. these two always manage to scare me.. 😛

Do you guys have some kind of inter-vehicle communication system?

Oh - and this thread is worthless without pics of your brother's (hopefully) riced-to-death Protege sitting in a mud puddle and your stock Lancer sitting happy on the shoulder

Although I do call him a ricer for driving that car and also not knowing much or caring to learn more about it/ignoring it (ran the oil down to almost nothing, neglected timing belt for long time, etc). I WILL have pics, but the protogay is not riced out.. just has non obnoxious rims, they're not oversized. no mods body or engine, otherwise. and no mods for the other protoge or the lancer

there is NO moral to this story fellas, zCypher just wanted to brag.

Maybe it does, well it probably should 😉 and if you did like my bro or chief I would just have to die laughing 😛

i prefer that it's standard/manual (please, no debates on what they're ''called''!) for wimming ... but for daily driving going to work and back i wouldn't mind an automatic. i think when i sell the cam i'll probably get an auto fbody.

Heh... My old Dodge Omni would prolly own a lancer... 😛

j/k

Really, there's more to driving than the car. If you maintained control, and they didn't, you're the better driver.

100km = 62mph so you do the math. 😛
DurocShark = it shouldn't take much to own a lancer. the 0-60 is what, 8 or 9 seconds? 😛

cornering with my lancer sucks balls... too bad they didn't want me to bring the z. 🙁

In MPH the speeds = SLOW
I didn't buy a lancer to go fast 😉 but my speeds could be off anyhow.
highest speed hit during night : 185kmh (highway)
highest speed hit on backroads : 160kmh (little straight part)
average driving speed in the backroads, anywhere between 60-120.. i concentrate more on actually staying on the road unlike some people 😛 we weren't going fast into the curve-thing.. my bro just lost control cause A) didn't judge anything about the curve well enough B) was going too fast for his car in that curve and C) maybe there was some dirt that made him skid initially and he couldnt regain control. dunno, dont really care. was funny as hell 😛

SO if you ask ME, i was going plenty fast enough... im not going to try and go X speed to say OMG look I went this fast! I already know the limits of both my cars, i think being able to drive them is a bit more important..

so i must conclude that i am a more skilled, and SAFER driver than those wimming bitches.

I understood everything in your story, except this part.

I don't see what's difficult to understand, here. I kept better control of my car hence it's safer than someone not in as much control.

For this to be a truly enjoyable story you guys need to get some REAL cars and go some real speeds as going 60-75 mph is nothing to get excited about.

gahhhhh! what is it with you people that just care about X mph! who cares?! i already have ppl bitching about the safety thing at 60mph imagine 120mph??? it'd be the end of the world fvck! lol

at least i don't push the limits of the car! you don't need a supercar to have fun

here's the real cliffs notes.

-writer considers his 40 pound subwoofer to be a real speed disadvantage. haha!
-morons in wimpy econo-boxes try to drive fast. haha!
-one encounters a magical thing called "understeer" which writer calls "hydroplaning." the only question here is which one is stupider. haha!
-writer, having seen tight corner ahead, seen one car barely make it, and seen another plow right past it, barely makes the corner himself. this is due to him being "more skilled," and apparently has nothing to do with those two cars in front of him warning him to slow down. haha!
-writer repeatedly uses word "obviously" to describe things which are in no way obvious unless you are, in fact, the writer and were there.

summary: stupidity abounds.

uh...

don't you mean you do push the limits of the car? because that's the whole argument for slow cars being fun to drive, that you can push the limits without having to go insane speeds. if you're not pushing the limits in a slow car, i can assure you that "fun" is not involved.

------ (edit)
WinkOsmosis
Sorry about the wim/wimming/wimmer terminology confusion. Not sure how to explain it well...
It's sort of like a general expression. Not something with a very specific meaning. Lets say I'm driving on the highway and a car speeds by me. One might say he "wimmed" by me. Let's say someone takes their sports car out one weekend and just wants to have a load of fun with it... you might say they're going "wimming". Meh.. don't worry about it too much. 😛
------

Yeah OK thomsbrain, you obviously think a little too highly of yourself there. Let's see...
writer considers his 40 pound subwoofer to be a real speed disadvantage. haha!
I don't even know how much my subs weigh, so I don't know how you possibly could. So you're basically saying, blindly, that it makes zero difference. So at what point does the additional weight makes a difference? 1000lbs? One person? 5 people? The whole point of mentioning the subs was that they are present in my car while they are not in the other two. Wasn't saying it made me a lot slower. Obviously it didn't since I was no slower than either one of them in reality.

-morons in wimpy econo-boxes try to drive fast. haha!
How old are you? For someone accusing me, my bro and friend of being morons, etc - you aren't making a great impression of yourself. Wimpy econo-boxes? So what econo-box is not "wimpy" then by your high standards?

-one encounters a magical thing called "understeer" which writer calls "hydroplaning." the only question here is which one is stupider. haha!
You weren't there, yet you know more about the situation and what to call what was happening (understeer vs. hydroplaning)? Usually the term hydroplaning refers to the loss of control under circumstances such as wet pavement/puddles. For example, you're taking a slight curve - you hit a patch of unexpected water and your car begins to slide and you can't regain control. You go off the edge of the road. Understeer? I think not. All I pointed out from my original post was that *maybe* there was some SAND/DIRT on the road which could simulate the effect of "hydroplaning". Note: maybe hydroplaning is not the best term for that, but I do believe everyone else who read that understood what I meant perfectly.

-writer, having seen tight corner ahead, seen one car barely make it, and seen another plow right past it, barely makes the corner himself. this is due to him being "more skilled," and apparently has nothing to do with those two cars in front of him warning him to slow down. haha!
So basically you're finding whatever you can out of my post and attacking me, for what reason again? Didn't quite catch your reasoning for that. Obviously we were all going faster than we should have. And yes I do believe this is obvious after having read my post. I kept reasonable control of my car as I stayed on the road, and knew there was nothing obstructing my path or cars to collide with. Bro went off the road. So because I saw them ahead of me, and still took the curve faster than I should have, I'm a moron? I'd really like to see you drive.

-writer repeatedly uses word "obviously" to describe things which are in no way obvious unless you are, in fact, the writer and were there.
Hmmmm. Maybe they weren't obvious to you. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to accuse others of being stupid, since said things weren't obvious to you at all, when nobody else seems to have had a problem here. I don't think it's too ridiculous to assume that it will be easy to spin your tires when you're in a pile of dirt. I don't think it's too ridiculous to assume that I'm going to go back on proper course following the road, as opposed to following bro off the road. Yeah, that is in no way obvious unless you are, in fact, the writer and were there. Good work.

uh...

don't you mean you do push the limits of the car? because that's the whole argument for slow cars being fun to drive, that you can push the limits without having to go insane speeds. if you're not pushing the limits in a slow car, i can assure you that "fun" is not involved.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Well, I guess you're right in a way, maybe. If you don't have fun that's your own damn problem, your loss. I've had plenty of fun with both my cars, without beating the sh1t out of them. If your only way of having fun driving is pushing your car to and past its limits... you must have a very boring life.

"That's the whole argument for slow cars being fun to drive" WTF are you talkin about there, pal? How about the late 80s preludes. Let me guess, it's too old and cheap of a car to be fun for you right? It's not fast at all, and that car is fun to drive. So to you the only thing that makes a car fun to drive is being fast? Whatever, dude.
