Don't touch any orifices, carry hand sanitizer, etc...

My brother was just hospitalized last night because of severe flu symptoms. Being that it finally hit so close to home, I guess I ought to start taking some precautions. I've been carrying around a bottle of hand sanitizer(one of those "don't need water" soaps), I take a multivitamin, and I don't touch any orifices with my hands(mucous membranes are the easiest way to contract the flu). Any other helpful hints?

Yup, I think I might have it. Slight fever, cold symptoms. If I start throwing up today I'll be the next victim. Guess I'll just sit around and post on ATOT.

Throwing up is a symptom of the flu? I thought it was mainly body aches, fever, headaches etc? I thought vomitting was mainly a symptom of a virus or food poisoning?

Currently there are two flu types that are the main concern. Both are of similar strains, one is intestinal and the other is bronchial related. With the intestinal you'll be throwing up for sure. The intestinal strain is the one that is being blamed for killing most of the small children around the country.

My son has had the latter for over a week now. He's been out of school for a week, been to the doctor twice in that time. This flu season is going to be a nasty one.

I got a flu shot for the first time this year.....so far so good. /me fingers crossed.

Welcome to the flu club. I recently joined, and have been in total pain since. Thrown up twice, had 104F temp, and every joint in my body aches. It's a prestigious club, so be proud if you get to join it.

Well, the folks I know that have had it this year have been vomiting and then not being able to eat for a couple of days. Combine that with fever, cold symptoms and achiness and that describes their flu. They were the only ones in the little town to NOT get flu shots too...ironic.

ha suckers! I have such a good immune system that i only get sick like once a year, and it's never as bad as the flu.

::knocks on a lot of wood:: 😀

I had fever/chills and body aches for about ten hours a couple of days ago. Thought for sure I was getting the flu, it felt just like it. Then within few hours I was fine all of a sudden. Don't know what was the deal with that.
