all i was looking for was a BASIC PLAIN case with a 450W psu, but all i seem to find are die cut windows, spider webs and crap engraved in it, 50 neon lights

i just want a basic one

i was looking at this one on new egg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811125483

thats atx compatible, but it says its a server case? whats the difference between a server case and regular? i like it because of the psu and the fact that its not assy, just nice and plain - actually i could stand to have one a little shorter than that, although that ones only 2-3 inches taller than my current case

Get the Antec SLK3000B and buy your PSU separately. It's very rare that a case comes with a good PSU that fits your exact needs. It's always better to have choice anyways.

Almost any Antec case would be a good choice, since the are all plain, and good PSU's.

"Server case" just means it's a bit bigger... You really should get a good brand name case though, like Antec or Lian Li. Lian Li sells high quality "basic plain" cases.

agreed, nice case with 120mm fan mounts for good by quiet cooling.

Another vote for Antec. The gaudy cases aimed at the 10-14 year old market generally are of very low quality anyway.

or you could just search the internet for a case you like and isn't insanely over priced (lian li).. read a couple reviews before buying anything since, of course, there are some cases that are POOR quality.. however pretty much any case will work great..

while i do agree that the lian lis are nice looking, to justify that its worth an extra $100+ just seems impossible.. unless the case comes with some kind of ducting, they have little to no difference in cooling performance, since most cases use basically the same design. and you can find cheap cases with removable mobo tray, the clips and such for drives, etc.. yes they are of good quality, but so is my $40 case... the only reason to buy a lian li is if 1) you like wasting money or 2) you care more about brand names

Well, there seem to be a lot of people on this forum that like to waste money, so... The cheapest Lian Li case at Newegg is $80 though, which is still pretty high but not $100+... I myself don't like Lian Li's because I prefer not-so-plain ones. Of course I wouldn't buy one of those cheap retarded plastic flashy cases. My personal preference would be something along the lines of the Thermaltake Tsunami. It's not "assy", but it's not as plain as some others.

InWin makes good budget cases that are sturdy and practical. The PSU's shipped with them are Fortron based, which is a plus.

I agree with the Antec SLK3000-B and I would suggest the XClio 400 or 450 PSU (if newegg has any left and if you need that much power - most only need a good 350Watter). Best price on the 3000-B has been at Amazon or Provantage (<$50. shipped)...

The only difference between a server case and a desktop case is that a server case is usually much larger and heavier as they aren't made to be moved around. They're made to stay put and hold lots of junk.
